Eyeliner for wrinkles on eyelids.

I’m 34 and I swear in the last year my perfectly taut skin has become crepey with ridges (AKA wrinkly) around my eyes.

I still like lining my top lid with some liquid liner but my old holy grails no longer go on smooth. When I pull my skin taute I can get a straight line, but once I let go its like a squiggly line. I’ve only ever used felt tip liners and I’m wondering if this is part of the problem?  What type of liner should I be using/with what applicator?

Im Specifically looking for product recommendations!  Thanks gals!

I'm 20 years older than you, and as a general rule of thumb, I recommend that you consider going with softer effects anywhere that your skin is visibly aging, including crepey eyelids. If you blur the edges of your liner a little, in this case, you can still have intense pigmentation without revealing that it's getting tricky to have that sharp, crisp line of liquid eyeliner. A pencil will give you a slightly softer line, and can be smudged a little as needed. Personally, I like the MARC JACOBS BEAUTY - Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner, which has a fine tip and is easier to keep sharp than a standard wooden eyeliner pencil.

How about trying pencil or kohl? That way you can smudge it and not really worry about that perfect line.

im also 34 and I personally don’t pull my skin to draw the line because it’ll get warped once I let go. I close one eye and kind of tilt my head back a bit and lift my brow ever so slightly to make the lid smoother rather than holding my eye at one end.

Never too young to start taking care of your skin!!

Try a liquid eyeliner with a brush instead of the felt tip. Kat von D has one and so does Sephora. That is what I use and I’ve been dealing with this issue myself for a while. I don’t like the felt tips. They leave me with jagged lines. Don’t pull your skin to line. Make sure you use a primer and moisturizer. I’m currently trying out a light TCA peel on my kids to see if it will help. Might take a few peel I hear but since the potency is low, I’m ok with it. Using it under my eyes as well since that has started to look crepey as well.

@meagsss   You probably like the intensity of a liquid eyeliner; so do I.  I have the same problem as you, and my old products and methods don't work as well as they used to.

In order to maintain the intensity of a liquid liner, if I'm in the mood for that, I will use the liquid liner, knowing it will not result in a perfectly straight line, and top it off with a gel liner or eye shadow.  Or even a cream eye shadow stick.  What's fun about this is you can alter the shade of your eyeliner without having to buy a new one. šŸ™‚  One of my favorite combos is a black liquid liner with a burgundy cream shadow stick on top.

Also, and this makes no sense to me and I can't explain why it works, but Surratt's Smoky Eye Baton, which comes with a liner and shadow to either top the liner or use on the lid or lower lid, applies so well on my eyes.  Maybe it's the shape or the thickness or the creaminess, but I'm very happy with it.  My other thinner pencil liners are more difficult to apply.

@meagsss It's best to avoid pulling your skin taut since that could increase wrinkles over time if you do that often. Apply eyeliner without pulling on your skin so that you know how to work with your skin to get straight looking lines. You can also use pencil eyeliners or dark eyeshadow with brush over the liquid liner or alone.

Re: Eyeliner for wrinkles on eyelids.

I've given up on liquid liner and use pencil or even a dark shade of shadow applied with a liner brush or even a smudge brush.
