Dead Skin

So I have noticed as I touch my face, dead skin is coming off. Is this normal?

My Nightly Skincare Routine:
Clinique Cleansing Balm
Paula’s Choice Exfoliant (twice a week)
Laneige Milk Toner (when I don’t exfoliate)
YTTP Cactus Serum with Hyaluronic Acid
Estée Lauder Advanced Repair Night Serum
Peace Out Retinol Eye Stick
Peace Out Retinol Face Stick
Kiehl’s Moisturizer mixed with YTTP Superberry Oil
Kiehl’s Midnight Concentrate Oil

Re: Dead Skin

@farrahvictoriaI agree with @Kim888 - your skin is likely flaking because your skincare routine is a bit too assertive, and you're turning over skin cells that aren't yet ready to be replaced. I'd suggest cutting back to cleanser and moisturizer for a time, until your skin recovers, and then try adding in one exfolating/renewing product at a time. You may even want to revisit your cleanser and moisturizer. Dial in your cleanser first - does your skin seem clean, or filmy, or stripped, or red, or tight? And if that product is where you want it to be, add in moisturizer. Let your skin tell you what's working. I long ago gave up on cleansers that made my skin feel so dry and tight that I had to moisturize at once.

Ultimately your skin itself will tell you if a product is working well for you or not. If it looks glowing and refreshed, great! But if you're getting dry skin coming off when you touch your skin, take it back to absolute basics, and experiment with only one new item at a time, preferably for a few weeks (unless it clearly doesn't work, in which case stop it at once and give your skin a week or so to recover and go back to baseline). More, unfortunately, isn't always better.

Re: Dead Skin

The retinol and exfoliating combo might be too harsh for your skin @farrahvictoria @though both those can cause dry skin especially early on so if it’s a new routine that could be why. I find the Peter Thomas Roth FIRMx™ Exfoliating Peel Gel really nice for gently getting rid of dry skin
