Botox AMA

I’ve been getting Botox 3-4 times a year since I was 28. I’m now 35. Ask me anything! 💉

Re: Botox AMA

@missaa8 after care is super simple. Avoid alcohol and blood thinners for 48 hours, no heavy exercise or upside down yoga moves for 24 hours. Try not to lay down for 4 hours. There may be teeny tiny red dots at the injection site but it’s barely noticeable. Bruising can happen but this can be mostly avoided by no alcohol/blood thinners before or after. No massaging your face/facials. Always listen to whatever your injector advises. This is just my own experience and I’m not a medical expert.

Re: Botox AMA

Oh, and my injector puts arnica at the injection sites. No idea if it works at reducing bruising but it doesn’t hurt to try! You can find topical arnica gel at Sprouts or Whole Foods, or probably amazon!

Re: Botox AMA

You're a gem, @bri1945.

Re: Botox AMA

@bri1945 @I’ve been getting medical Botox for a few years. Do you find over time that you have to increase your dosage? I haven’t yet, but just curious.

Re: Botox AMA

@abstraktgirl The amount you use for a muscle usually stays the same, because it’s based on the size of the muscle. What will change, usually, is that you’ll have to adjust how often you get treated, as the length or effectiveness varies over time.  You may also end up increasing the total units used when you add or subtract muscles you treat. You might start with just your eyes or just your forehead, but eventually you’ll be treating both.

Re: Botox AMA

@Chris38 That's so interesting! Ive been treated for years and mine doesn't wear off faster than before, maybe medical botox is just different.

Re: Botox AMA

@abstraktgirl @Everyone is different! My own experience is that I wanted “baby Botox”/suuuper subtle results the first year so I had less injected. Now I want the muscles to be a bit more frozen so I get more than I started with! I hope that your medical Botox has been helpful to you!

Re: Botox AMA

@bri1945 Oh no, I hope its not too much more frequent aka more expensive!

Thank you, my medical Botox is a total gamechanger, I don't know what I'd do without it 😊

Re: Botox AMA

@bri1945 Hooray!  I am also a member of “Opt-Out” of aging group!  I’m really lucky that it lasts really long for me, so I’ve been going in about twice a year since I was 31, and now I’m turning 46 in a couple months. I think it’s done an amazing job keeping deep wrinkles away. I love the little eye brow lift I get. I’ve also been SPF daily since I 12, so I think that combination has kept me from getting crows 🐦 feet.

Re: Botox AMA

@Chris38  Twice a year? I’m jealous. I start to notice movement at the 3.5 month mark, my injector says I can push it longer but I really don’t like to.

Re: Botox AMA

@GG84 It’s just luck, and it may run out. I’ve been told some people end up needing less and less over time, while it’s the opposite for others.

Re: Botox AMA

@Chris38 thats awesome that it lasts so long for you! Jealous!!
yes SPF is such an important piece of the “opt out of aging” puzzle! ☀️

Re: Botox AMA

@bri1945, I heard it's expensive ...

Re: Botox AMA

@missaa8 it can be pricy. I live in an expensive part of California so the prices are likely inflated compared to other areas of the country. I treat my crows feet, forehead lines, and “11’s” And it’s in the $500-$600 range per session.

Re: Botox AMA

@bri1945, what about aftercare?
