Anti aging skin care routine

I’m in my late sixties I need advice on a good skin care routine. I’m not sure if I should try different lines together or just stick to one brand with the whole routine.

Re: Anti aging skin care routine

I'm in my 60's and have started using The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + Hyaluronic Acid for Fine Lines and Wrinkles 1 oz/ 30 mL . It doesn't break the bank and there are quite a few choices for anti aging.Try  The Ordinary The Daily Set with Hyaluronic Acid Serum. The moisturizer is a little thick but a small amount goes long way. Give the Ordinary a try, you won't lose a lot of $$$ and you might even like it. I know I'm very happy with the Ordinary.

The brand also has various strengths of Retinol, starting at 1%. If you do use a retinol, make sure you use a sunscreen.

My Mom is in her early 60s and went through the same confusion. As far as I understand, consistency matters more than mixing tons of brands. She started with a gentle cleanser, a retinol, and a solid moisturizer with SPF. Later, she added Crepe Erase for texture, and it has made a visible difference.

@deborah1957 for anti-aging, go for AHA, antioxidants and retinol.

Re: Anti aging skin care routine

I'm a bit younger than you (43), but recently got my mother and mother in law on my skincare routine, using the Sahajan products.  Super gentle, and effective, especially the cleanser and the serum are my favourite.  I would recommend testing and seeing what works best for your skin, but stay away from products that might be too harsh.  I think the best skincare routine is a consistent and gentle one, and focus on nighttime routine (for me, it's Sahajan's essential oil cleanser, the toner, the serum and I finish with the night cream, the creme riche).  In the mornings if my eyes are looking a bit puffy I will use their eye cream too very lightly.

Re: Anti aging skin care routine

@deborah1957  Early 50s here, and my skincare routine’s a mix of different brands and price points. You can do that or stick with one brand; what matters most is finding specific products that work for your particular skin and budget.

Here’s how I usually recommend folks plan a skincare routine:

  1. Understand your skin type/behavior - as we age, our skin naturally gets drier. But some people might still have skin that’s more oily on their whole face, or a combo of dry areas and oily areas, or balanced (not too dry or oily anywhere). And some of us have skin that’s very sensitive or reactive/inflammation-prone, or we’ve been diagnosed with certain skin conditions (rosacea, eczema, melasma, etc.). Example: my skin’s mostly-dry combo (my oily zone’s just on and around my nose; everywhere else is dry, except my forehead which is almost balanced) and reactive: certain ingredients, like lavender and other essential oils, irritate the heck outta my skin.

  2. Decide what you want skincare products to do for you - are there any specific issues you want to address, problems to resolve, or skin goals to meet? Example: I’m targeting large patches of hyperpigmentation, keeping my dry skin hydrated and moisturized, reducing surface redness, and trying to tame the grease factory in the middle of my face.

  3. Learn which ingredients can (or may) meet your goals/treat your issues - this can help you weed out a whole lotta stuff your skin doesn’t need, thus saving you time and money. There are plenty of good resources online… I can recommend a few later, if you’d like. Actually, for now lemme recommend my favorite database resource: INCIdecoder. You can look up products there and read about ingredients they contain. I don’t like that INCIdecoder assigns ranks (goodie, icky, superstar, etc.) to ingredients, but I’ve never noticed any “clean beauty” or brand-specific bias there and their info’s science-based. I definitely don’t recommend EWG or “clean beauty” apps like Yuka as resource for a few reasons.

  4. Find products that contain those ingredients - they don’t have to be from the same brand. Also, OTC “medical grade skincare” isn’t really a thing, so don’t be fooled by that marketing hook. And price =/= quality: there are some very effective low-cost products and ineffective expensive ones. The most expensive product in my routine is a retinaldehyde serum.

The bones of a good routine are cleanser (PM, optional AM), moisturizer (AM & PM), and broad spectrum sunscreen (AM). For some folks, that’s all that’s needed. What do you currently use on your face?

Re: Anti aging skin care routine

Thank you for the helpful information. My skin is mostly dry no breakouts i really would like to prevent getting too many more lines. Currently I’m using only caudalie brand i have their face wash, sunscreen, eye cream, brightening dark spot serum & the night/day cream. I have only had a regular routine of taking my makeup off at night and using my products for the last year, I really know nothing about skincare and have only ever used Olay my whole life. I would like some honest feedback on some good products that others use.
