What should I do??

hello so i have been breaking out like TERRIBLY. i have been thinking its my diet so i've noted to cut stuff out like gluten/dairy/sugar. more on the skincare side... what should I add or cut out of my skincare?? I check to see if my products are non pore clogging and all of them aren't. My products i've been using are...

1. Deep oil cleanser - kose softymo

2. la roche posay foaming cleanser

3. either paulas choice BHA or ordinary glycolic acid.

4) Sulfur mask - dela cruz (everyday or 3x a night. i dont put it on when i exfoliate)

4. ceramide barrier serum - cocokind

5. Natural moisturizing factors - the ordinary.

should i introduce some new products?? Should i go on adapalene or retinol?? What acne treatments should i introduce my skin to?? Any advice for diet and skincare would be highly appreciated!! 🙂

I use retinal every night and have noticed a big change in my skin. Talk to a derm about getting on that. I also highly recommend using the ordinary salicylic acid serum and using a salicylic face wash as well. I also use the Mario Badescu drying lotion on my pimples.

Re: What should I do??

thank you, i've also just been using the salicylic acid serum as well and have noticed a big difference in my skin texture!

Re: What should I do??

@kayteeNt   Before making drastic dietary changes, I recommend you speak with a primary care doctor. Cutting sugar and dairy completely (or even mostly) from your diet can be very harmful to your body. I mean, our bodies chemically need sugar to function. A doctor can help you figure out how to balance your diet for your specific needs, or they might refer you to a dietician.

You might also want to see a dermatologist, if you can. A derm can diagnose your skin and determine what type of acne you have, or if it’s even acne at all. (There are a few skin conditions that mimic acne.) Your primary care doc may also be able to do that, but it’s a derm’s area of expertise.

Adapalene and retinol are both forms of vitamin A. Of those 2, adapalene’s the one that’s FDA-approved for acne treatment. You could start using adapalene, sure, but you might wanna consult a derm or primary care doc first. This ingredient’s infamous for causing purging, and it can be quite drying—but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad or dangerous ingredient. 🙂 There are ways to minimize the dryness and irritation, and purging shouldn’t last longer than 1-2 months.

Oh, and I don’t see a broad spectrum sunscreen on your list. Do you use one each day your skin’s exposed to sunlight, all year long, regardless of weather or season? UV rays can worsen acne, among other things.

Re: What should I do??

thank you! and yes I use the skin aqua sunscreen everyday.

Re: What should I do??

Are you allergic to any of the ingredients?

Re: What should I do??

nope, i usually do a patch test on all my products and i never get any irritation or anything i should be aware of.

Re: What should I do??

How long have you been using those products? Because your skin could just be purging which can last to I think 2 months. It’s when you use like AHA or BHA which you have and cleans out your pores:)

Re: What should I do??

i have been using these products since July and i honestly don't know if they are doing anything for my skin 😭

Re: What should I do??

Are any of those products you listed new to your regime or new makeup? Sometimes that can trigger breakouts even with "clean" products. Looks like youre purging? Salicylic acid and MOST of The Ordinary products do that to me!  Not all products play nice with each other even if all ingredients are non-comedogenic. Retinol is a strong chemical exfoliant. It can help but also may make your skin very sensitive and red. Try keeping things simple and process of elimination until you find the culprit. The sulphur mask should help clear you up but it can be drying and irritating if you overuse.

thank you!
