Is Living Proof Perfect Hair Day causing my sudden terrible neck acne?

Has anyone else had a problem with this? I just started using it in the beginning of October and about three weeks ago I started getting terrible neck acne on my hair line that reaches up to behind my ears and a tiny bit on my throat, as well as a little bit on the hairline of my forehead.  I never, ever, ever breakout, so this is odd for me.  I ran out (it was a travel size) about two weeks ago and the acne has only gotten worse, but I'm hoping that's just from residual clogged pores. I'm trying to narrow it down to one of four things:

1.) The product itself

2.) The fact that I just simply washed my hair way less while using it

3.) Stupid hormones (I'm 28)

4.) Started using scarves recently because it's getting cold.

I'm a nursing student and I have to wear my hair up all the time at the hospital and it's embarrassing.  Help.

Edit: I looked in the reviews and couldn't find anyone reporting this, which is why I'm asking it here.

This product gave me horrible cystic acne all over my scalp and neck. Took me a couple days to figure out the cause. Will never purchase again!

I can concur this product gave me horrible acne. Cystic deep and painful.. I was broken out the worst I’ve ever been stopped using for a year and got 100% clear. Tried PHD on a whim and now have the worst acne again only in the areas PHD. Touched. I absolutely love the product and what it does for my hair.. hate what it does to my skin

RE: Is Living Proof Perfect Hair Day causing my sudden terrible neck acne?

I have this issue with some hair masks and conditioners.. the only way I can use either of those things without irritation is to not let it touch my scalp or neck. I do have acne prone skin, though. Try starting the hair mask an inch away from the root and then wrapping your hair upwards so it rests up upon itself, if it’s long enough. If this helps then you’re conditioner or shampoo is definitely causing it. Let me know if this is helpful, I’m wishing you the best of luck. 🙂

I have the same issue! The only thing I’ve changed is to this shampoo!

Just stared using Living Proof shampoo and conditioner 3 weeks ago, and now have itchy hives at back of neck at hairline and in scalp, the hives are now extending down my neck and onto upper back- can’t believe it took me this long to figure out the cause. Love the smell and way my hair looks after using, but unfortunately i’m throwing it in the trash.

Re: Is Living Proof Perfect Hair Day causing my sudden terrible neck acne?

I used the living proof Timeless shampoo and conditioner for a few weeks. Both formulations are quite thick and my hair never felt clean after shampooing and conditioning. My scalp also started to break out with whiteheads and pimples.  Quite gross.

Re: Is Living Proof Perfect Hair Day causing my sudden terrible neck acne?

I've been using Living Proof products for over a year now. Periodically I will get a pimple somewhere on my scalp- it's not noticeable to anyone but me and I only notice because they hurt when I brush my hair or scratch my head and touch it...

On a side note, one time in high school I started breaking out on my upper back (under my neck but from shoulder blade to shoulder blade.) I got it under control and it disappeared, but when I hit about 25 it came back and now I have scarring and occasional break outs and I'm almost 32. After I wash my hair I always make sure to wash my upper back with my acne face wash....it helps but I still get an occasional pimple back there. I have used many different kinds of shampoo/conditioner in my life and none of that seemed to be a factor in my back breaking out.

I'd say it's a possibility that washing your hair less and/or your scarf is causing it. When I don't wash my hair or use oils in it, and the hair touches my face, it can cause breakouts. Also, washing your scarf frequently might help

Re: Is Living Proof Perfect Hair Day causing my sudden terrible neck acne?

I second the possibility of the scarf. Many people don't think about washing outerwear, or not nearly as frequently as normal clothes. But scarves especially, since they usually touch bare skin on the neck or face, can accumulate oils and bacteria just like pillowcases, and cause similar problems for some people.

If you haven't washed or cleaned the scarf(ves) you wearing, try that and see if it helps.

Honestly, you can develop an allergy to anything at anytime that almost no one else has. Example? Me at 17, suddenly woke up with dermatographia, which means my skin is allergic to pressure of all the ridiculous things. The only way to tell is to experiment. Try washing your hair more while using it, and if that doesn't reduce or stop it, stop using the product. Make them about a 2 week cycle. if it clears up, then you know what it was. Also, you could hand wash your scarves if you're worried about them. Not much to be done about hormones except talking to a doctor, however.

Re: Is Living Proof Perfect Hair Day causing my sudden terrible neck acne?

I haven't had this issue and ive been using LP for 2+ years, PHD specifically about 4mons. The only time i get any breakouts along my hairline is when i either sweat at night, or i have too much dry shampoo specifically as i don't use hair products often. Certain hair products can also do that if it gets close to the skin like hairspray, change pillowcases often. But for shampoo i can only think if maybe it wasn't rinsed out thoroughly enough, But you said you wear your hair up all the time. The only time i ever get anything on my back is really in the summer when its hot, not really my neck. But when i wash my hair i keep it  on top of my head instead of laying on my back while the shampoo sits so it doesn't run down my back.

Also for the scarves depending on how often you wear them, you will have to wash them more. Especially if you use any kind of sprays or perfume, they will stay in the scarf and in turn your neck isn't breathing if you have it on often
