Hello!
I am looking for a new skincare routine and unsure if I should try the DRUNK ELEPHANT Day/Night sets or the SUNDAY RILEY New School Skincare Set (As they no longer sell Squad Goals) as I've heard amazing stuff for both. I am still a newbie and currently using a Korean skincare but I seem to keep breaking out now that I am older and almost done with it.
My skin is sensitive, dry, now ACNE prone, blemish/hyper-pigmentation spots and uneven skintone. Also I am turning 30 and want some anti-wrinkle skincare added to my routine. can anyone recommend on past experience, which one will help me the most!
Thanks in advance!
there's no contest. Sunday Riley is loaded with irritating ingredients. Drunk Elephant is more effective and clean.
Sunday Riley is not loaded with irritating ingredients. In fact it’s quite the opposite. All of her formulations end with a perfect PH, and purified medical grade ingredients. It’s part of the reason her products won’t oxidize on your skin unlike DE’s. And she’s actually the chemist for her own brand, meaning she has full control over every ingredient and product. With clients, I’ve seen no at-home skincare regime garner real results after facials, other than when I discovered SR. All of my acne clients as well as my dry/sensitive clients have seen instant and continued improvement in their texture, scarring, redness, acne, blackheads, and wrinkles.
I have tried products from both lines and Sunday Riley always gives me better results. I love drunk elephant, don't get me wrong, but I go with results. The good genes is probably one of the best products I have ever placed on my skin despite the hefty price tag. It's more effective than DE glycolic acid. Now as far as vitamin c goes, the biossance beats them both. I use the sunday riley sulfur mask when I'm having a lot of breakouts so I'd recommend that. Also sunday riley makes an oil for dry skin that acts as a moisturizer.
Good Genes has a pH level of 2.6 and that damages your skin. I can't use it.
I've had trouble with acne since my first break out in middle school-I'm sure we've all.
As a Middle schooler and High schooler I was just too lazy to take all the antibiotics and apply the numerous prescribed ointments. When I was given a sample of the Sunday Riley U.F.O I applied it before going to bed that night, patting it lightly into my skin. The following morning I was very surprised to see visible results from night to day. I absolutely recommend Sunday Riley.
I swear by Sunday Riley. I don't have problem skin but i did have small skin colored bumps that you could only see in sunlight. they were the same color as my skin and within a week of using Luna and Good Genes, they were all gone. The day after using the sample of Luna, every single person told me my skin looked great. Again, i have always had even skin tone and I am not prone to breakouts and the improvement was still pretty magical! Gave me a real glow!
Also - GlamGlow for exfoliating (the black one).
No contest in my opinion. Drunk Elephant has completely cleared my skin. I haven't had a breakout in a year.

What is your skin care routine? I’ve started working DE into mine starting with the TLC. But I’m curious what other products people use with it.
I highly recommend Sunday Riley's Luna. I think it is just the best product ever. It cleared up my acne and significantly reduced my acne scars. I only use it every other day now, but the thought of running out of it stresses me out so much, because it has made such a huge difference in my life.
I've also used Drunk Elephant's C Firma--I got results, but it took a really long time, maybe three months, but my skin does look brighter and more even toned. I think it helped a little with some of the remaining acne scars I had. I'm running low and I don't think I'll repurchase (but maybe because of the sale coming up)
Actually, I got the Drunk Elephant 750 point perk that they had a while back and so I think I'm qualified to say that the rest of the line is ehhh. It's fine, but over priced. I didn't get good results with the Framboos product at all. I do like the cleansers though.
Something weird is going on with Sunday Riley. I think all of their product launches since Luna have not been at the same quality. Tidal made me break out like crazy. I got a sample of CEO and surprisingly it didn't make me break out, but I'm skeptical of a Vitamin C product in a jar. What I'm trying to say is I'd skip the Sunday Riley set, but give Luna a try. They sell a smaller bottle of it now.
Oh and Good Genes is fine, but I always find myself reaching for Pixi Glow Tonic instead.
I tried a ton of the Sunday Riley stuff and saw no visible improvement in my skin, and I ended up with little bumps all over. Super sad, because I'd heard amazing things about their line. I tried Good Genes, the blue face oil, and the Tidal face cream. I have only tried one Drunk Elephant product, but after one day of using it (I think it was a glycol acid product) I had an itchy red, bumpy rash that took weeks to go away completely. If you have sensitive skin, I'd be wary of these.
By the way, do you live in Houston and used to work at Sephora? @Jengarcia87
Isn't that where Sunday Riley lives too? LOL. What a small world!
@Jengarcia87You might be reacting to all of the essential oils in Korean brands. @Anonymous That happened to me too! I stopped using essential oils, fragrance and silicones and my skin completely cleared up. I was using Ole Henriksen and Sunday Riley plus some other brands like SW basics. I liked the results, but I still had redness and breakouts. I started using Drunk Elephant oil and night serum and had another bad reaction. Then I read more about the Drunk Elephant on beautypedia and social media and decided to try eliminating some of the ingredients I had been using. This was a turning point for me. I now use only Drunk Elephant and Josie Maran plain oil and my skin has NEVER been better. It's glowing and I haven't had a breakout or any redness since. I can even use the DE Babyfacial without any redness or irritation. It's truly incredible and I want to sing DEs praises from my roof. Just read Beautypedia.com for incredible detailed info on both brands and on all brands. The C-Firma is a wonderful vitamin C, although you need to use it up within 6 months because it's an active that does oxidize. Drunk Elephant does it better than even skincecuticals so I'm thrilled because it's also less expensive. And the best part? You don't need acne treatments with Drunk Elephant because you won't have acne!! Yay! I've converted my friends and even my dermatologist is now recommending Drunk Elephant now. This brand is clearly doing something that no other brand is doing and it has saved my skin.
@Anonymous Yes I figured the Korian oil was affecting my skin. The other 2 products were working for me as far as keeping it mosturized as I have super dry skin, but my face still has red spots, its uneven and worst of all, this new breakouts/acne that I haven't had since middle school! 😞 I have decided to eliminate all of them and try something new that will actually make my skin healthier and better looking.. the redness and breakouts are the worst. How was your experience with the C-Firma after eliminating those ingredients? I've heard several people complain about getting extreme breakouts.
It's been great. My first reaction was to the glycolic serum but when I got rid of the other stuff I was using, my skin returned to pretty normal. Then I slowly added products one by one. It's really strange too because I always figured I couldn't use anything but Skinceuticals because I don't do fragrance. The people I know who use it love it. I heard in Sephora when I was restocking that the owner of Skinceuticals actually came into the store and purchased himself and introduced himself!!! Crazy! It's just a great line. I know you won't be disappointed. Did you read beautypedia? It has reviews on every brand and it's so interesting to read. Get the Josie Maran Argan oil too. AMAZING. I would just start simple and get Josie Maran oil and maybe a cleanser bar from DE. Then try the serums once you like your skin again. Maybe get samples first too.
