Cystic acne

Help! Battling cystic acne or blind pimples on my chin. With much research I think it’s hormonal acne? In my late 20s anyone have any good product recommendations??

Hi, I've battled hormonal cystic acne the last two years and I have effectively cleared it and my scarring completely. Not all cystic acne is hormonal, but if you're over twenty, thats likely your problem. If this is true, topical treatments are not going to get to the root of the problem; it's internal. First, I'd recommend you talk to your doctor/derm about going on spirolactone. It's a drug that blocks hormone receptors that lead to hormonal acne; your acne won't "get worse before it gets better" and you'll see crazy results in a few weeks. Since its not an antibiotic, you can be on it for a very long time with no side effects. Nutrition is also extremely important; consider cutting out all dairy from your diet and eat foods high in probiotics to balance your gut (i.e. saurkraut, kombucha, kimchi, fermented yogurts, etc.). For current active spots, try the sulfur mask from Sunday Riley as a spot treatment and zitsticka pimple patches will penetrate the cystic pimple with medication. With these steps, I was able to focus on clearing existing blemishes and scarring with a couple products. The ones I love are Farmacy's Honeymoon Glow (pm AHA) and the Ordinary's niacinimide, azaelic acid, hylauronic acid, and retinol in squalene. You can also prevent skin barrier damage and heal dark marks with Krave Beauty's Great Barrier Relief. Finally, always make sure you wear an SPF (I'm a big fan of supergoop); without it, all of your hard work to fade dark marks with be irrelevant. I hope this helps you a bit.

@helloitsmae the best acne treatment I have tried and continue to use is the Paula's Choice Clear line. It made a huge difference for me, though my acne is not cystic. There's a reasonably priced travel kit which includes the cleanser, exfoliant and benzoyl peroxide treatment. There's also an extra strength formula you might want to try. My skin really got into better shape with these products and they're reasonably priced. Give it a shot. Also shout out to her 8% aha gel which also helped with the acne.

I would also not go with Murad. Anything with Salicylic acid 2% should help. It won’t be miraculous but you will start feeling less pain and they should gradually decrease. I personally use dermalogica overnight clearing gel and age bright clearing serum. The previous comments about Pharmacy and REN are excellent as well and there’s is also caudalie and belif that I have heard good things about. BUT please be careful and test out any products first. If you’ve never used these products before or have sensitive skin they could make your skin worse! Don’t expect miracles, just watch for signs of if the product is working. It usually takes around a week for me to see reduced acne with my products. All the best!

I would NOT recommend murad it did not help with my cystic acne. I would recommend Clean bee cleanser by pharmacy. REN as your toner (this works wonders). And the ordinary AHA 30% BHA 2% peeling solution. Im also in my late 20s and I've been using these products along with a good moisturizer for the past 2 may be 3 months and I've seen such an improvement in my skin. I really like the ordinary peel and I might try more of their products.

Hey! I think a product that works the best for you would be Murad's clarifying cleanser. This cleanser is meant to help clear breakouts and also prevent them. I have been using it for months now and it is amazing.
