Founder Feature: Nudestix

Hi BIC! It's been a while since we have posted a Founder Feature in the Community so we decided to get the inside scoop from Taylor (left) and Ally (right) from Nudestix. Read below to learn more about the brand and feel free to ask questions in the comments we may have missed!

First things first, can you give us a bit of background on who stands behind Nudestix?

• TAY: Nudestix was co-founded by my sister (Ally), mom (Jenny) and I (Taylor). Our mom, Jenny is a chemical engineer with over 20 years of beauty experience. After retiring from her previous beauty brand— she decided to embark an an eat, pray, love journey.
• ALLY: By observing my sister and I, she realized that there were very little beauty options for the everyday woman/girl. The beauty industry talked so much about artistry or skincare – without directly acknowledging the modern day woman who craved easy, fast and effortless makeup. Thus, we created NUDESTIX out of a necessity for natural looking, easy to use makeup for the real girl on-the-go. 

So, you are working with your mom & sister. What is the best part of working with family members? How do you guys divide and conquer?

• ALLY: The best thing about working with my family is being able to travel all over the world together. It’s definitely been a new common ground for all of us to relate to and has strengthened our relationship. We’re pretty obsessed with our job (which is awesome!!) but we’re still working on when to “turn off” and have quality family time when we’re not working.
• TAY: Nudestix has given us a common platform where we can all express our creativity and collaborate as a team. Jenny, as chemical engineer and CEO oversees everything from product development to retail and digital marketing strategy. Ally, currently in Medical school studying to become a Dermatologist, has a passion for product development and ingredients. Finally, I have a passion for business and marketing – I work closely with our content and marketing team to tell the Nudestix story on our digital platforms.

What inspired you to create this brand? (answer for both)

• TAY: Nudestix was inspired by Ally and I – the modern day woman (the mom, student, working woman and overall girl boss). We felt that there was a clear white space in the beauty industry for a brand to talk real, authentic beauty. When combining Jenny’s 20 years of beauty experience, with our fresh and modern take on beauty, Nudestix was born.

What’s the inspiration behind the name, Nudestix? What does Nudestix stand for?

• TAY: The name Nudestix was inspired by our vision to create a line of easy, fast and effortless luxury makeup crayons in all shades of neutral. NUDE means, all shades of neutral for all skin tones as well as a ‘less is more’ approach to beauty. STIX means, all things pencils and/or stick form – all of our products are multi-functional and super easy to use.
• ALLY: Nudestix is also about embracing your natural beauty and how every girl should love their imperfections and ‘go nude but better’. We believe that everyone is beautiful in their own way and should cover up enough to feel confident and comfortable.

Tell us a bit more about your ingredients. (Both)

• TAY: All of our products contain skin-saving ingredients such as Shea Butter and Vitamin E. In addition, all of our formulas are preservative free, paraben free, cruelty-free, dermatology tested and ophthalmologist tested for the most sensitive skin types!

If you were to bring just one Nudestix product with you on a secluded island – which product would that be?

• TAY: I would bring our Nudies All-Over Face Colors – for the perfect #IWOKEUPLIKETHIS makeup look.
• ALLY: I would imagine that I would need a moisturizing lippie. I would bring our Gel Color Lip and Cheek Balm in the shade Luxe to keep my lips pretty and hydrated.

How does your daily make-up routine look like?

• TAY: I am definitely a ‘less is more” type of girl. For quick and easy coverage, I use my Concealer Pencil to cover my “problem” areas. Next up, I never leave the house without my brows – I use our Dual-ended Eyebrow Stylus + Gel to fill and set my brows in place all day. To add some glow to my complexion, I draw on our Nudies All-Over Face Glow & Mattes. Finally, a light layer of our Lash Lengthening Mascara for that instant wake-me-up.
• ALLY: As a student I tend to run out the door in the morning leaving only minutes to do my makeup. I start by moisturizing my skin with the Tata Harper clarifying moisturizer and then I conceal any under eye circles or blemishes with our Concealer Pencil. If I have time in the morning, I’ll do by brows with our Dirty Blonde Eyebrow Stylus & Gel. Never forgetting my Gel Color Lip & Cheek Balm which can be nude or bold depending on my mood that morning, add a fresh coat of mascara and I’m out the door.

What are you working on right now? Can you give us any sneak peeks? (both)

• TAY: For the last 6 months, we have been working on a few major launches for 2018! I can’t give too much away ;)…but think complexion!

What an interesting glimpse into your brand!  I love the Nudestix aesthetic of less is more.  I know I can get caught up in the idea that I need 14 layers to look my best but I really feel prettiest when I'm comfortable and not worried that I can't rub my nose!  I've been dying to try the Blur Stix but I'm hesitant why my super oily skin (It seems very emollient).  I *love* the Creator's palette.  The influencers you chose created such a great range of shades that flatter so many skintones.  I can't wait to see what you have in store for us!

 Nudestix products are amazing. I am their crazy fan that must purchase the products individually to try before they become available in sets at a real amazing price. I own practically ever color in their lip pencils and eye pencils. 

I own most colors in the new Mary Phillips Jetsetter Set so I watched the video and recreated the Taylor look with the only difference being that I used the Nudies All Over Face Color in Naughty N Spice. I did use my fuller coverage foundation though and I really liked the outcome.

I hope to see some bolder colors offered in one of the lip collections.

I like when makeup companies don’t over complicated the usage or intent of a product . I tried the new blur stick , it’s amazing for on the go !

As a mom, I like the concept behind their brand.. I would really like to see more shades added in their nudies all over face colour stix and possibly see minis of these as sets or individuals to trial or gift 😊

Got to finally try this brand recently through a promo where I get a free full sized chubby stick from them, and I have to say I am surprised at how good the quality it. It glides on so easily, and has very nice pigment.

I love this brand! Their magnetic matte lip pencils are beautiful and smudge proof! Their tinted blur stick looks perfect for when school starts again since I don't like using foundation often. Can't wait to see what other quick and easy complexion products they come out with next! 😊

Q: Do they have plans to do more collabs like they did with the creator's palettes?
