Hello BIC! Earlier this week, @KatieBT and I started our day at Sephora’s Powell Street location for a “Dream Vanity” experience. If you haven’t already heard, Sephora has partnered with Google Home and you can experience Google’s new device, GOOGLE - Home Hubin 10 US Sephora storesfor now. I’m always looking for an upgrade to my beauty routine, so we had to check it out. I’ve put together a quick glimpse for BIC below!
The Google Home Hub is placed on a vanity decorated just as someone would in their home. The idea is that this could sit next to you wherever you do your makeup (vanity, bathroom sink, your desk). Imagine you’re sitting on your bathroom sink applying your makeup and, mid cat eye, you decide you want to pull up a video tutorial. This is where the fun begins because it’s where you can actually interact with the device! You could ask, for example, “Hey Google, show me a Sephora smoky eye video please!” and Google will respond and pull up one of our many tutorial videos to perfect your look.
I’m sure many of you are familiar with voice-activated devices but the cool thing about the Google Home Hub is the new screen which can take you right to Sephora tutorials without lifting a finger or putting down your blending brush. In addition to the new screen, Google’s Sephora Assistant also acts as your personal skincare advisor, offers skincare tips, recommends products, and helps you find your nearest Sephora store!
Any Google Home users here? Let us know what you think of the new Google Home Hub!
@BrendaBT That's really awesome that Sephora partnered with Google for this. I'd heard a little bit about it but didn't really understand how it really worked until you explained it :).
Guess I'm the only one who's not interested in this type of technology... lol
@veronika23, in all honesty, I wasn't a fan of these devices until I was gifted a Google Home from someone who would have been very upset if I returned it!
It was a bit odd getting used to talking to an inanimate object but it is convenient and doubles as a great speaker for music. I feel like I use it most when I'm doing my hair or makeup "Hey Google, play 90's rock," "Hey Google, what's the temperature in __ neighborhood," "Hey Google, play my favorite podcast." Aside from trying to multitask (aka dancing while applying makeup), I can use it to call my phone, which I tend to leave in the most random places in my house 😄
I'm glad you are enjoying it @KatieBT! I wouldn't be able to have a device like that though... for a number of reasons... but also AI's scare me. 😄
I'm surprised to see that there's a few of you that's also not interested in this. Glad I'm not the only one! I mean technology is great and all but do we need it for absolutely everything...
@veronika23, I am not interested in this either, however I can understand why others would want / enjoy using it. Applying makeup is quiet time for me. I personally don’t want anything like this on my vanity or in my bedroom.
@veronika23, @darkiceis, @Lazybeautybeast, @RGbrown, I'm with you, my vanity is full enough I don't have the space to put anything else. Not to mention that I keep all technology out of the bedroom, that should be a place of peace and quiet away from modern "noise"
@veronika23 I'm not interested at all. Today's time is being inundated with so much technology. I do see it as a benefit to others for various reasons. But for me, no thank you. I prefer talking to myself in the mirror while I put my face on 🙂
@RGbrown Just another way for the government to collect data on it's flock... 😂😂😂
@BrendaBT I'm a Google home user...So i'm confused I guess. Is this just for Sephora stores, or can I buy it? I talk to my google all the time (I live alone y'all) if I could talk to google about Sephora...😄
What a neat concept! The quote on the mirror is cracking me up because I am always trying to reorder SEPHORA COLLECTION - 12hr Colorful Contour Eyeliner - 02 Clubbing Stilettos 😄 Best black eyeliner!
@BrendaBT That set up looks so cool. I wish I had a bigger house.
