Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

This thread frustrates me more and more everytime I read it. I'm not going to say exactly how many points I have for fear of someone trying to hack me, but a crap ton best describes it. The cashiers always look twice at the number when telling me my points and asking if I want to use any. I'm not going to say where I read this, but it was this week. I read that Sephora is going to try to push us to use all our points a la 2015 then roll out a new system. So you guys can put out fancy q-tip jars and hair towels and dollar store mirrors but this gal aint using her points. I spend a ridiculous amount of money at Sephora and need to justify it somehow.

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

I’ve been hearing this rumor since last summer, that at the end of this year they are going to do an overhaul.

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

@GG84  you know, that's been my thought/fear for a while now. I have a crap ton too as you said and seeing the rewards getting higher and higher in point value not really making much sense when you compare to previous years. Like come on... UD brushes, empty palette and case for 10K points when a few years back that got you a 3 day trip to PARIS with MUFE.  Just can't compare... They've gotten so f-ing cheap! It dooes makes me wonder how much they want us to get rid of our points so they could roll out a new system... I mean we've all been complaining about it for so long. It be about time they listen.

*** It's also really hard to get higher end rewards so we better not loose what we've accumulated so far in points. I'd be pissed! ***

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

@veronika23 Here's my theory. People come and go. I'm willing to bet only 5% of Sephora shoppers actually know about the rewards bizzare online. If we just look at North America, 5% might even be pushing it. The average Sephora client see's the rewards at the point of purchase in the store, if it's a cool 500 point perk, they get it - score! Or they always grab a handful of 100 point perks. I doubt many Sephora shoppers, besides BIC'ers remember the awesome perks that once were. This is a billion dollar company that invests very little in their loyalty program, they rely on their vendors to supply deluxe samples at n/c because as a stat 50% of the time, if you try it, you buy it and thats a very appealing prospect to vendors...its a return on investment. But if it comes down to doing what Ulta does or upping the anty and bringing back good rewards actually worth the 10 or 20k point value  that requires Sephora to dip into their bottom line.

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

@GG84 This sounds pretty realistic to me. And even we here as the small percentage of "power users" still mostly fall into the two target markets we could loosely call "prestige" and "luxury".

We compare Sephora to Ulta a lot, and are doing it here too, but the other face of their competition is department stores, and a lot of those rewards programs sure aren't anything special... I'm glad Sephora hasn't yet hopped on the credit card bandwagon, at least. But if they said "we've heard your feedback!" and switched it to what might look like an Ulta format, but used a department store model like Nordstrom, it would be a $10 gift card when you Rouge and $10 for every $1k which is... not amazing either.

The department stores sort of make up for it with better GWPs (hey look, more stuff from the manufacturers' end) and things being a bit more of a "high touch experience"... but none of the in-store stuff is relevant when you're only shopping online, which is already a hot topic of discussion elsewhere.

I guess in the end, Sephora is less likely to lose loyal high-end customers over this because the alternatives (dept. stores or direct sales) aren't game-changers as far as fringe benefits go. I do wonder if their prestige and luxury sales numbers are fairly balanced, or if luxury is really driving the boat profit-wise... which removes the motivation to step it up with rewards.

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

@fieldsofclover If I wasn't so busy and if free shipping wasn't a perk I received, I would take my business elsewhere. It's mostly out of convenience for me right now. Does that mean I can't show another retailer my purchase history and negotiate free shipping? I absolutely can. I just need to research. Sephora thinks the ball is in their court... #IspendwhereIchoose

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

@GG84 I'd be super curious to hear what you find! Myself, I've reversed my shopping habits and actually switched to shopping almost entirely in-store... since Sephora mostly has online promos these days, the department stores are starting to win the fight for my dollars more often now.

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

@GG84   yeah true... most people probably don't know about it or remember the bigger rewards.  I just wonder though... with Ulta being on fire with their loyalty program (multiple gwp, great point system and lots of 20% off coupons) and acquiring more and more brands... have they been loosing customers? If you are a regular beauty shopper (maybe not a BIC level shopper 😉 ) I think you still want the best deal or value for your money... and right now it's not with Sephora.  And it's true they invest very little in their loyalty program. I'd probably buy even more stuff if they had a SDM point type system.

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

@GG84  Thank you for sharing this rumor.  I would hope that Sephora does not actually try to force people to use their points before by a certain date.  As they just implemented getting rid of inactive accounts that have points.  They have confirmed that as long as we , redeem a bday gift, reward, make a purchase etc etc then our points will NOT expire.  Of course this can be subject to changed and I sincerely hope that all points can be kept.

Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

As generic items, I would probably agree with everyone else and say I wouldn't redeem my points for these. However, if they were branded with Sephora's name and/or "BIC" I might be more tempted. Showing off my love of makeup/Sephora/BIC always makes me happy and it would be fun to have some merch around the house like little badges of honor! 😊 Also, if the products were more specialized for use with beauty-related processes (like a makeup mirror that has lighting best for applying makeup or a passport holder with a compact mirror inside) that would also peak my interest more. I hope that helps!!! Good luck guys and thanks for always being so open to feedback! ❤ @TayBT

RE: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

I would be unlikely to redeem these because I already own most of these (in the style/version that works better for me). I would be most interested in the apothecary jars, but would need to know more about them (are they plastic? Glass?), and the hair turban (although I prefer the fast-drying rectangular towels). I agree with an earlier commenter who suggested the Sephora umbrella. I have had a red and black one for several years that I still use (I think it was from an in-store event). I would consider using rewards on another umbrella because it’s something that is always handy and I don’t need it to be a specific type (unlike, for example, a standing mirror that probably won’t fit on my counter). I wouldn’t mind seeing more 100-500 pt items that are generically useful - think face cleaning wipes, lip balms, USB charger, eyebrow razors, brush cleaner, pencil sharpeners, etc., provided the quality/quantity of product matched a reward for spending $250-500. Thanks for asking for feedback!

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

Hi @TayBT

Thanks for requesting feedback on potential Rewards Bazaar items. If I’m being honest, I would not redeem for any of these rewards. I feel items like these are a dime a dozen when it comes to freebies. I would however love a rewards program similar to Ulta or the Beauty Boutique. The Rewards Bazaar has become too frustrating to try and redeem for items with such limited quantities and it would be great to redeem for products that I’m actually interested in.

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

I wouldn't redeem for any of these. I can get a hair towel for $7 elsewhere (and I've seen 2pks at tjmaxx for $8-10), and I don't find the rest particularly useful or aesthetically pleasing for my needs or wants. These particular items seem to be of the tchotchkie or trinket variety, and I'd like to think my points are somewhat more valuable than this. None of these items are worth more than $100 buy-in (100 points), much less 500 or 750.

That said, in general, I'll echo others here and express dissatisfaction with the Bazaar in general. It devalues points at a greater and greater rate as time goes on. The items available are slowly going up in points cost and down in value. The 500pt items used to generally be 5pc sets, but I'm seeing more and more with just 3-4 items, or if they have 5, one is a packet (and in reality, I'm usually only interested in one or two items in a set, so it seems like even more of waste to spend that many points on them).

I can get a DS as a promo code for $25, but if I want to spend points on a DS in the Bazaar, it'll cost me $100 worth of points. That's 4 times as much! I don't typically have a lot of points...usually between 500 and 1000, but that's mostly because I've never seen much that entices me to try and save for one of the big ticket rewards. Anything I think might interest me will be gone in a flash anyways, so I simply spend them on the 100pt items that I want to try each month. I've gotten a couple of the 250pt deluxe perfumes as well, but sometimes I think even that is too high.

There is nothing about Sephora's loyalty/rewards program that makes me feel loyal or rewarded...one extra DS for every $100 I spend isn't much incentive for me to shop here, not when I get much better rewards elsewhere.

I've heard a rumor that there's a rumor that the rewards program is being revamped this fall. I hope that's true! Normally changes to rewards programs don't benefit the customer, but to be honest, I'm not sure this one could get much worse without just disappearing completely, and I doubt that's a move Sephora would make. 😄

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

Nothing really grabs my attention. Compact mirror, there was one originally for joining VIB. Picture frame most use digital now. Hair turban, one size doesn't usually fit all. Mirrors and jars you're going to be picky about: size, magnification, etc. Passports vary in size, will yours accommodate? I've seen similar products as gwps from an accessory company.

Would like to be able to transfer points to purchase amounts. If it's sold elsewhere, with a gwp or with a discount, I may be more inclined to purchase there instead. If the lower point items where larger sizes, I would be more inclined as well. I know brands provide, but a lot of times it's the same size they give away or include in a trail kit.

I do use the VIB Lip tote from awhile ago, which wasn't a point item. From a VIB promotion. https://m.sephora.com/product/vib-lips-tote-P383010 Bags come in handy, especially if they have a closure.

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

TBH I don’t see myself redeeming any of these rewards.

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

Why not something like this? A 100 Singaporean dollar buy-in is about $75 USD. There's obviously already an existing contract and process for these that you could tap into, even though it's a different regional market.

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

Honestly, I would prefer a reward program like Ulta’s. Having the choice to use points for dollars off my purchase of anything I want is my favorite type of reward. I would spend significantly more above the Rouge required amount each year at Sephora if the reward system changed.

I enjoy trying new cosmetic and skincare products, so often I redeem points to try something. I like mini perfumes, mini lipsticks (like the Givenchy one this month). I am picky about home decor and accessories, and none of the potential offerings you want us to rate appeal to me personally.

If Sephora continues with the current bazaar model, I would suggest being able to choose a full size product up to say, 50 dollars for example for x amount of points. Or gift cards. Also, it would be great to see more luxury type deluxe samples offered from higher end brands.

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

@TayBT While I both appreciate and respect the continuing efforts of Sephora to improve their reward system I have to say every option provided was disappointing.  These seem like the type of bulk items you would buy to put into a goodie bag at a children's party.  I understand that Sephora is a business and that your reward system cannot cost the company more money than it brings in but these just feel like carnival prizes.

If you truly want to improve the reward system simply follow through on the requests of the community rather than trying to figure out clever ways to get around them.  We want beauty supplies that we would actually buy, we don't want to have to stalk the website in order to get the 5 the company has in stock, and we want to be able to spend our points as a price reduction of current purchases similar to Ulta's format.  This seems like an easy solution but one Sephora seems loathe to implement regardless of the fact that you have an entire beauty community clamoring for it.

I am truly grateful that Sephora is working toward improving the rewards system, but all the current efforts just seem like bandaids.  The company has a faithful following, helped to foster a beauty community where we can all come and share our thoughts and ideas, but in this area you guys just seem to consistently get it wrong.

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

@TayBT  Glad there is some acknowledgement of the rewards bazaar, but like most BIC members have expressed these items are very basic and something I can easily pick up at a store myself. It would be great if Sephora would let us convert our points to a % discount that we can use as we see fit. Also, if we can even get rewards that are Sephora Collection items I would redeem my points for those.

Re: Feedback Wanted: 250, 500, and 750 Point Rewards

Thank you for taking the time to post and asking for our feedback! Unfortunately, I have to agree with most of the other posters as well. Ultimately I would not redeem any of those rewards.

Of course like others have mentioned the ideal situation is being able to use our points toward purchases or seeing more gift cards in the bazaar. If we aren't going that route I also agree that makeup/perfume rewards with increased availability are the best. I feel like the best rewards are like a gift - something you want but might not actually spend your own money on. The Jo Malone perfume I was able to redeem has quickly become one of my favorite scents and it's definitely the best reward I have redeemed!
