Best brushes?

I'm looking for the best brush value. Do you recommend brush sets or buying them individually. Looking for the best bang for my buck. I currently don't have quality brushes. (I got them from my dad and stepmom for Christmas, and the whole 44 piece set cost $3.)

Look u usually get what u pay for so don't be to cheap unless that's the look your going for jk but really take advantage of those great sets that come out every so often just don't expect them to be anywhere around $3 more like $30 minimum for a small set but I have found some of my favorite brushes come from my sets u can't go wrong I'm sure u will find something u like!!!!

RE: Best brushes?

I typically avoid sets unless they have a decent number of reviews from a group I trust (i.e. Sephora shoppers) or independent reviews frombloggers I trust. Not a hard rule, I just find that certain brushes—morein the mid-range (e.g. Sephora brand and the Tarte unicorn brushes)—tend to be of lesser quality than those sold individually. Real Techniques brushes tend to be the same whether packaged or individual and are generally reliable quality for the price (Eco Tools is the same parentcompany, I believe); as someone pointed out, they're often on special at Ulta. Makeup Geek makes some really decent, affordable brushes (comparable in price to RT), too. The only limitations you might find with the two lines is selection, as they don't have as full anassortment of eye brushes as other brands (that's where Morphe and Sigma come in, though I've yet to try them). Also, brushes can last forever, so while I (completely, believe me) get the need/desire to save on brushes, especially when there are great brushes that will last a decent while for not much money, it's not a bad investment to pay a bit more for an important one sometimes.

I highly suggest that you do both. Buy face brushes in sets; purchase eye brushes as individuals. I have found that buying a whole big set of brushes (especially around the holidays) is fine and all but a lot of the little eye brushes end up just sitting on a shelf collecting dust. I would recommend getting some of the Real Techniques brush sets if you want drugstore. If your going to online shop, try some of the Morphe brushes.

Re: Best brushes?

@Anonymous

I recommend buying sets; you'll get much more brush per dollar.

Eco Tools brushes are good quality for their price point, and they're currently* buy one get one 50% off at Ulta.

Also, if you're a Costco member, keep an eye out as the holidays get nearer: they usually have a complete brush set at a reasonable price around that time.

* Until Sept. 23rd

RE: Best brushes?

The next step up, if you want a good value and decent quality of brushes, would probably be Morphe. They sell them in all different kinds of sets, for eyes and face.

Re: Best brushes?

It depends mostly on which brushes you'll use. For instance, it's not worth buying an expensive set of brushes if you won't use most of them. However, if you do know you'll use most, if not all of the brushes in a set, then it can be a great value.
