unisex perfumes

Are there any perfumes that are unisex? I am looking for unisex perfumes because I find men's cologne to be to strong.

Re: unisex perfumes

@Anonymous, the good news is, all perfumes can be worn by any gender 🙂 And both traditionally female and male fragrances can be light-wearing or very strong. The 70s and 80s had some HUGE classics like Opium, Poison, and so on. Some contemporary Tom Fords for women are also very powerful. Gendered fragrance is basically a marketing thing, like pink pens and razors and bags for women and the exact same things in blue for men. It's not really related to the strength of a fragrance.

One of the first fragrances that was explicitly marketed as unisex, complete with a totally memorable and iconic ad campaign, is cK One. This is a minimalist citrus fragrance released in the 90s that still holds up over the years and is not heavy.

Nowadays, we find there are houses that have no gendered fragrances, especially in niche. Jo Malone, Le Labo, L’Artisan Parfumeur, Diptyque, Byredo, Escentric Molecules, DS & Durga, these are just some examples of houses that don’t classify their scents by gender, but there are so many niche houses now. If you like a less toxic formulation, Phlur has some good options and is again, not too heavy.

However, it sounds like you are seeking lighter wearing scents? In this case, I would direct you to Atelier Cologne, Jo Malone, and the Hermessences which are more minimalist in style. Penhaligons is another house that is relatively light wearing. If you like a scent but it is too strong for you, I would recommend looking for an Eau de Cologne concentration instead of an Eau de Parfum. As @Vmaster  has said, if you can be more specific about the type of scent you’re looking for, we’ll be able to help you better 🙂
