ipsy or Play! Box?

I just got my sneak peek for the things coming in my ipsy bag and I'm very disappointed in a lot of the products I'm receiving, it's like they didn't look at my reviews or profile and just threw random things in the box. I'm loving the Sephora Play! Box but 1) I've had multiple problems with billing since I've joined in September and 2) I can never track my box, it gets here before I even get a confirmation email. I hate wasting $22 a month on both and can't decide on which to get rid of. If anyone else had ipsy and/or the Play! Box, which do you like better? And which do you think is worth the $10-$11?

RE: ipsy or Play! Box?

Iโ€™ve been an Ipsy member for 2 and a half years and usually Iโ€™m pretty happy with the bags, it definitely does take a bit for them to hit their stride with your makeup tastes (after about 7 months they started getting me best, and even better after they made their profile quiz more in depth), but Iโ€™m also one of the most willing โ€œhey whateverโ€ people out there and if I have something Iโ€™ll find a way to make it work, or I donate it to a friend who does makeup bags for those in need using old ipsy bags as packages. I just joined Play! this month because I was curious, and so far Iโ€™m pleased! I donโ€™t know how itโ€™s gonna go because Iโ€™ve heard of some issues with billing and shipping which can be problematic for me, but my first box showed up when it should have and Iโ€™m pleased with the products I got. Time will tell on this one for me but Iโ€™m willing to give it itโ€™s fair shot. TLDR I think theyโ€™re both great, they definitely offer different experiences and with Ipsy itโ€™s all about how long youโ€™re willing to give them to sort out your particular tastes with makeup.

RE: ipsy or Play! Box?

I had Ipsy for a few months and at first I liked the products that gave me but after some time I joined play! and I realized that they had a lot more of the brands I used and so far I have bought full sizes of a lot of the products they sent me. With ipsy I began getting products I didnโ€™t like or never use. Sephora just has a lot more rewards with their box and itโ€™s much easier to buy full size products when you get a sample you like.

Re: ipsy or Play! Box?

I have had Ipsy for 2 years and have been very happy.  I receive a lot of full size samples of make-up.  I joined Play! in December of 2017 and I am highly disappointed with this months box (051).  I joined mainly for more name brands but mostly for perfume samples.  Here we are month 2 of my subscription and NO PERFUME sample.  And this month's (January) samples were so tiny.  If no change next month then I am cancelling Play! and sticking with Ipsy.

RE: ipsy or Play! Box?

Iโ€™ve had Ipsy and unfortunately they kept repeating items that I didnโ€™t put down n my profile I love my play box deff worth the price I think

RE: ipsy or Play! Box?

I have Ipsy , play and boxycharm.... Boxycharm is the best ! Itโ€™s $21 but you get 5 full size and you get good stuff! I like Ipsy because you get some full size and Iโ€™ve tried stuff I wouldnโ€™t necessarily purchase that I actually liked. What I donโ€™t like about Play is we never get anything full size I think I only keep it for my points .

RE: ipsy or Play! Box?

I hated ipsy. I had their subscription for 2 years before calling it quits i would hope every bag would better better but it didnโ€™t and the brands suck! I recently just found out about play box hoping for good stuff

i mostly get bummed by colors i get in ipsy... they give...

i mostly get bummed by colors i get in ipsy... they give me too many nudes/neutrals. i have repeatedly reconfigured my profile hoping for more brights, but nothing. if it doesnt improve this month/january im dropping. especially when i see they are giving out 2 colors and i love one, but get the other i dont at all fancy every time

RE: ipsy or Play! Box?

I actually like Ipsy better because you get more variety of products. I have reviewed my products and change my profile for next month to be better and it keeps getting better. I just cancelled play because th samples are super small and I just havenโ€™t liked my play boxes, there are always less variety and the bag is super cheap quality too . However I would recommend the limited edition play boxes that come every two months. The size of products is usually better, different bag or box each month and you get to try expensive brands !!!

Re: ipsy or Play! Box?

i used to have ipsy but got tired of the same old stuff. there are some good items but the overall quality is no where near play! much happier with this subscription!

RE: ipsy or Play! Box?

Me personally I donโ€™t like that Ipsy curates drug store items. Thatโ€™s why I think play is better. With you having billing and shipment issues I can understand the problem

RE: ipsy or Play! Box?

Check out my subscription addiction.com they have box spoilers for every subscription box available. The Ipsy spoiler for December is posted!

RE: ipsy or Play! Box?

Glossybox is the best out of all 6 subscriptions I receive

Re: ipsy or Play! Box?

Omg, I get both ipsy and Sephora play, BUT BoxyCharm is by far the best in my opinion. I pay $21.00, but I get 4-5 full size products and I was off the wait-list within the same month that I joined. Last month I received Cover FX setting Spray, Luxie travel brush set, Winky Lux eye shadow palette, a lippie, and lip masks. They are always amazing boxes full of full sized products. This month's sneak peaks already have everyone crazy excited. I think if you are considering adding something new, you should look into BoxyCharm. Good luck and best wishes...

What about compared to BirchBox? Anyone getting that?

RE: What about compared to BirchBox? Anyone getting that?

I get both Play! and Birchbox. Birchbox is far superior. Far superior. I feel like the Play! items are the same for everyone, regardless of skin, coloring, etc. With Birchbox, 4-5 samples are tailored to me. Yes, almost every single one. For instance, I really prefer skincare over makeup. My most recent box had a mascara (my selected itemโ€”you get to choose one of your five (from a choice of 3-4) and four skin & hair products. It was awesome. And some months I get extra items. And never perfume! I havenโ€™t bought anything, but Iโ€™m planning to buy some stuff. All the Sephora stuff is fun junk, essentially. I know nothing about Ipsy or others because Iโ€™m old. Lol

Re: RE: What about compared to BirchBox? Anyone getting that?

Wait... I thought you couldn't choose what items you want? I signed up for Birchbox and granted I am on the waitlist but I didn't get any options in my page about selection for next month just purchasing add ons

@karahbrooke I like play a little bit better than ipsy, b...

@karahbrooke I like play a little bit better than ipsy, but ipsy sends brushes which I like, but I recently tried Lola beauty box, it's 21$ a month and the boxes are almost always valued over 100$ I've had 2 boxes that were pretty good, I just got off the wait list for boxycharm, and they are also 21$ a month with box values over 100$ as well, they also send brushes, I'm going to see how comparable the two are, but I'm going to stick with play, they definitely have high quality name brands vs ipsy

Sephora Play! had Ispy and didn't recognize all the brands and got tired of every other month getting mailed a brush I didn't need. I like the fact that everything in the Sephora Play I can go buy at the store.

Re: Sephora Play! had Ispy and didn't recognize all the brand...

And the 50 bonus points every month is awesome!

RE: ipsy or Play! Box?

I didnโ€™t like Ipsy. Such small samples and buying the full size was weird to do. Also things were cheaply made. Yes getting the little bag was cute, but honestly how many little bags do you need? Sephora play is much better and where I spend my money anyway!!
