The Ordinary!!!!!

I am a new user to the ordinary products. I have never been a real big skin care person, but now that I’m 55 years old I can see the wrinkles on my face and the uneven skin tone and the dry skin. I need to know what skin regimen would Work for me.  The products that I purchased so far have been absolutely amazing! I can totally see a difference in my face and also feel a difference on my face! I am using the Rosehip oil the buffet the HA and a natural cream. I also purchased the granactive retinoid. I am afraid to use it because it says not to use it with other serums. Please advise me on what to do, I’m getting very confused. There are so many Ordinary products and it seems like all of them will tackle all the issues I’m having with my facial skin. I just need to know what to do.

The Ordinary!!!!!

Retinoids (Vitamin A) are completely fine to use with other serums like Hylaronic Acid, Niacinamide (vitamin B3), TO Buffet (good choice for anti-aging), and other serums containing antioxidants like Vitamins C and E. Actually, using a retinoid in conjunction with Vitamins C and E can help optimize the effectiveness of the retinoid! Retinoids can be irritating and drying, and that is why most people will tell you to avoid using them with other powerful serums- especially when you first start using a Retinoid. The main two things you want to try and avoid in the beginning are 1.Direct exfoliating acids such as AHA (lactic acid or glycolic acid for example) BHA (a.k.a Salicylic acid), and 2. Vitamin C in it's most potent form, L-Ascorbic Acid. Both of those can be irritating and drying, and you run the risk of compromising your skins natural protective barrier by introducing multiple strong ingredients together in one routine. If you want to use direct exfoliating acids or vitamin C with your retinoid, you can alternate between all 3 in your P.M. routine... or use the Vit C during the day and then alternate Retinoid/acid in the P.M. You can also choose to use a milder, gentler Vitamic C derivative like the Ordinary Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%. A mild daily exfoliant like the FAB Facial Radiance pads is a good choice. My skin can tolerate both a mild exfoliating acid and a Retinoid nightly; however some people with very sensitive skin never get to that point. Some people use an AHA, the L-ascorbic acid and a Retinoid nightly with zero issues. On the other hand, I wrecked my skin's moisture barrier trying to do all of that. Key takeaway point: yes, you can use just about anything with a Retinoid as long as you don't combine multiple Retinoid/Vitamin A products, and you gradually introduce the Retinoid into your skincare routine. Once you are used to the retinoid, then you may introduce other strong products one-at-a-time. Alternating Retinoids with other strong products is the gentlest choice, but you can use them in the same PM routine as long as your skin isn't burning, inflamed, or showing other signs of irritation.

one more thing: it is absolutely critical to wear at leas...

one more thing: it is absolutely critical to wear at least SPF 30 sunscreen everyday while using a Retinoid. Even though Retinoids are applied at night, they will make you more susceptible to skin damage from UVA/UVB. By not using a daily sunscreen, you will pretty much negate the anti-aging benefits and possibly make wrinkles, sunspots, etc. even worse. This also applies to the Vitamin C and the AHA/BHA families too. If you aren't already using a SPF 30 or greater sunscreen on your face on a daily basis, then I strongly suggest that you start... especially if you are wanting to begin using a Retinoid. Of all the things to put on your face for anti- aging, sunscreen is the #1 MVP. I get very preachy about sunscreen because my mother had two pre-cancerous moles removed from her face about six years ago.

RE: The Ordinary!!!!!

I am 37 and have always used skincare but I around 35 I started having hormonal skin related issues and no matter what product I used I saw minimal results and before I knew it I had one of everything and felt overwhelmed. So I started seeing an specialist. I know have microneedling done and it changed my skin completely!!! Wrinkles are disappearing, skin tone is completely even, no more hyperpigmentation and scars, texture is also reducing significantly with every treatment. I now use a toner, serum, and moisturizer. My skin absorbs products so much more now too so I use half the amount I used before. That’s what made the biggest difference for me. Good luck!!

RE: Re: RE: The Ordinary!!!!!

Try it!!!!! Its practically risk free!!! The only risk is of infection and from my experience you would have to completely neglect your skin for that to happen. I found a specialist (I live in Portland Oregon) that I pay $90 a month and can have any treatment I want each month. So I started with microdermabrasion and was happy with the results but that was only for a couple weeks. I tried a chemical peel and again results were nice but short lived so I did the needling and results were amazing and continues to improve over a couple of weeks as you “heal”. I looked like I had a sunburn for about 48 hours and that’s all. I won’t do anything else but needling now.
