Returns using paypal

I have never had a problem with returning to Sephora. Today I went in store with an order I actually picked up just yesterday. This order was placed online and I used PayPal. Yesterday when I returned a couple items from said order, they were easily able to refund me back to my debit card. I was not made aware they were making an exception, or that it wasn’t allowed. Yet when I went in today I was told “that’s not the policy, and if the did it that would’ve been an exception and they told you”. Well they didn’t tell me and I had no idea and explained that. The workers then began to gaslight me. They asked who did the refund for me and I said I be her she was blonde but I’m unsure and don’t remember her name, but I did bring up the receipts showing on my phone. They said we don’t have anyone that’s blonde here that would’ve done that and not told you. So all they gave me was a merch card. It’s so frustrating 😞
