Orly rubberized base coat

I was wondering where has anyone used the Orly rubberized base coat when doing your manicure and if so does your manicure last any longer than it does with a regular base coat?

@Tina30219 - I tried Orly Bonder a number of years ago and my polish came off more quickly than normal.  Whether it was an incompatibility between the product and my nails or user error, I don't know.  I always had good luck with Butter London Foundation, but it's very expensive. 😠

I've used Orly Bonder and it's a good base coat. I don't wear polish for longevity though, I change mine out a couple of times a week, so I can't speak to wear time. Additionally, some products work better for some folks than others...just as with skincare, individual chemistry comes into play, so even though it's well loved by lots of folks, it might not be the best for you (or it might be...you'll never know without trying it!).

Good prep is a massive factor in how long your polish lasts though. You asked about vinegar in another thread, and as I recommended there, whether you use vinegar or acetone or alcohol, cleaning off the nail plate thoroughly before polish is a must. Even a hint of oil on your nails can cause premature peeling or chipping. Additionally, polish needs to be applied to dry nails, ones that haven't been wet for at least an hour beforehand; wet nails soften up and change shape, and as they dry back out, they can loosen the polish on top. Cleaning the cuticle off the nail plate is important as well; polish doesn't stick to skin well long term, so any polish over cuticle is going to peel off pretty quickly.

Extending polish wear can also be helped along by a good topcoat, and by being more mindful of what you do with your nails. Keep them out of water when possible, or wear gloves if you need to do cleaning or dishes (water is your nails' number one mortal enemy!). Nails are jewels, not tools!

You say to make sure to clean the mail off and cuticle area with either alcohol or acetone so you get all the oils off the nail but another thing is a base coat just as important as a top coat?

Base coat is important, yes. Base coat serves as your bonding layer, and is formulated to adhere to your nails, whereas polish is formulated to stick to base coat or other polishes, and doesn't always stick to nails well by itself. Base coat can also help prevent at least some staining. Ridge filling base coats can help smooth out the nail surface if you have any ridges or pits to hide. A base coat is definitely needed if you are looking for the best results.
