What is appropriate makeup for a man?

What I mean by that is this. In the context of society today. What would constitute “professional” makeup for a businessman? Is there a line? Should it be completely invisible? There is not a lot of conversation out there about this. I’m a cisgender man I am an executive and I deal with lots of people in face to face meetings. How my clients, coworkers, and partners see me in the context of masculinity in today’s society matters. So for me there is a line When I wear makeup in that environment, it has to be natural, and it can’t be obvious. That generally means Light foundation and concealer - okay Super light amounts of WELL blended bronzer If any contour, it’s on my lower jaw to define a strong jawline. Brows....newt but not TOO perfect Lip balm is an always And that’s about the line as I see it. A line I push a lot, much to my wife’s dismay...lol (I tend to like adding a bit of cheek and blush and she things I’m setting myself up) I think gently pushing that line is a good thing, she worries how it could impact my standing and reputation And I totally honor that and I tend to be chill about it. But....lol, I do love wearing it proudly though

Re: What is appropriate makeup for a man?

@Skatingaway  I'm going to take gender out of the discussion and just say that the appropriate amount of makeup to wear varies greatly by profession/company. What is ok in one field may not be ok in another, and that's the reality for both men and women. In a business environment, the safest look for women is the no-makeup makeup look. I would assume this would be ok for you. I'm assuming you work outside of the cosmetics industry when I say this, meaning if you were a corporate exec for Sephora, this wouldn't even be an issue. I think a way to find the line is to look at the other men. Do they wear makeup? How are they perceived if they do? I once had a boss I suspected of wearing under eye concealer, and it wouldn't have been acceptable if it were obvious in that company, but I really didn't care, and never felt the need to gossip about it either. It just really depends on your co-workers.

RE: What is appropriate makeup for a man?

In today’s society it’s perfectly ok to wear makeup if your a man. I men Jeffree Star is the biggest name in makeup and he wears it lol. You can also wear whatever brand you’d like. If you want to look professional you could do milk cosmetics. You could also do fenty beauty. Rihanna has a bundle just for men. Wich is pretty cool. In reality though if a guy wants to wear makeup he should wear what makes him feel awesome.

RE: What is appropriate makeup for a man?

Masculinity & makeup have NOTHING to do with each other. The sooner you can get that idea out of your head, the better. It is 100% acceptable for men to wear makeup. Considering you have face-to-face interactions on a regular basis, why wouldn’t you want to look your best? I recommend Milk Makeup for your needs. Milk has 3 foundations right now... light, medium, and full coverage. Check out the Sunshine Skin Tint (comes in 8 shades) for an easy-to-apply, light coverage foundation that also offers SPF 30. If your curious about trying more products in your routine, Milk’s Hydro Grip Primer hydrates & prepares skin for any makeup you would be applying afterwards. Using a primer before applying your makeup will give the makeup something to grab onto for a smoother application. After primer and foundation, a concealer could be used to brighten dark circles, cover blemishes, etc. Milk’s Flex Concealer (comes in 16 shades) is super easy to apply and blends beautifully. Once you’re done applying makeup, you can set in the look with a setting spray. Milk’s Blur Spray will help minimize pores & fine lines for those face-to-face interactions. The finish is matte, so you won’t be left looking dewy or shiny. I recommend Milk for you for a few reasons. Their aesthetic is very natural & effortless. You can do as little or as much as you like without feeling too “done up.” For example, their Kush Fiber Brow Gel (comes in 8 shades) takes 10 seconds and makes your brows look fuller and healthier without looking drawn onto your face. The company doesn’t test on animals or use any animal products/by-products for their products. Milk Makeup has very high standards when it comes to the quality of their ingredients & the value of their products. I would advise you to go to Sephora or a similar retailer who specializes in cosmetics so that you can sample and swatch foundations/concealers on your skin to find the best match for your tone. It’s hard to see tones in color online & product after looks differently on your skin that you would assume. Associates at Sephora will help guide you if you ask for assistance; that’s literally their job, so don’t be shy! I hope this has been helpful. Have fun! ✌🏻

Re: RE: What is appropriate makeup for a man?

Thank you for the advice, I have a good stable of products myself but I always like hearing from others what works for them.

makeup is genderless and is a tool, it can be masculine for sure and it can also be feminine as well.
It can be used to enhance masculine features and downplay feminine ones so I respectfully disagree that makeup have nothing to do with each other.

What I was asking is this
In the context of society, where is the line between business-appropriate makeup for men and does it differ from the general business standard for women.
