"No-Makeup Makeup Thread"

I admit I am starting this for selfish reasons. I do love makeup but I don't have the courage ( yet ) to wear it out. This may be a way for me to wear makeup and I may be the only one who knows. Would love to hear your comments, advice, or anything you may want to contribute

I own a ton of products of course but most days for work I'm doing a minimal makeup look. For a base I use either a bb cream or a tinted sunscreen. If I'm going for a tinted sunscreen and have more redness than usual I will go over it with a sheer powder. If I use a bb cream I apply it with my hands and make sure it's blended with a damp sponge.

For my cheeks I prefer a cream product. I don't know how readily available they are anymore but my first blush was a Tarte Cheek stain. I'm super pale so I was afraid any color on my cheeks would be really obvious, but the cheekstains aren't. 

The most natural highlight I've found to date are the new MUFE Softlight Highlighters. They have zero shimmer/glitter, and provide a lit from within look. I think if you want to wear highlight without others noticing, a cream/liquid formula might be the best way to go. 

The most full coverage product I use on my face is undereye concealer. If I apply too much or don't blend it well enough it will be noticable by the end of the day. I use my fingers to apply it initally, then perfect the area with a damp sponge. I use the same damp sponge to set it with powder. I've never been able to use a brush to set it without it looking dry and cakey.

For mascara I've always preferred waterproof, but everyone is different. I just don't want anything that's going to travel down my face. Regardless of what look I'm going for I apply my mascara the same way.I do one eye at a time. I wiggle the wand back in fourth while spinning it (I hope I descibed that correctly) Then, before it dries, I comb through my lashes with a lash comb. This gets rid of any clumps there could be, distributes mascara to hard to reach places the wand missed and gives me perfect separation.

I'm curious to see what others do, maybe I'll pick up some tricks!

@Anonymous  "No makeup" makeup is practically my everyday look haha. Usually I just wear a light layer of foundation (currently loving the Sephora 10hr wear) and mascara. Sometimes, I run a tinted brow gel quickly through my brows if I have time. I'd say it wouldn't be immediately obvious that you're wearing makeup if you did something similar to this. If you have thick lashes, you could probably ditch the mascara too^^

@Guessgal  So just go lightly with this and I thought I saw that there is a clear mascara. My lashes are not thick

@Anonymous  Yep, that’s right about using a light hand 🙂 What do you mean by clear mascara? Like an overnight serum that grows your lashes?

@Anonymous There is such a thing as clear mascara 🙂 There are 2 drugstore brands that I know of that make it, Covergirl and Wet n Wild.

I saw your highlighter thread with @fieldsofclover, and I'm glad you started a no-makeup makeup thread @Anonymous.  I use too many products to consider myself a makeup minimalist, but try to keep my look pretty natural most days.

I really hate the look of heavy foundation on my skin, but my skin isn't flawless, so I prefer to wear something.  Right now I use philosophy renewed hope in a jar skintint.  I find it has the smoothest look when put over primer (I use smashbox photo finish, which seems to fall into the 'love it or hate it ' category).  The skin tint is similar to a BB cream, and they just came out with three new shades for better matching.

@Anonymous, it probably wouldn't be noticeable if you were wearing a cream like this.  If you're interested in trying something like foundation, but worried it may be obvious and you might feel self conscious, a BB cream, or something like renewed hope, is a great place to start. It's basically tinted lotion for your face.  They also usually have some spf, so it can be beneficial for your skin.

@RachFace2921 @suzyo @Guessgal  WOW you guys are like google of makeup or no-makeup. This is very enlightening. Is there anything for lips or should that be left out ?

@Anonymous personally for lips I wear whatever I'm in the mood to wear, which can range from bold to subtle. I agree however with @RachFace2921 that a tinted lipbalm from the drugstore is a good starting point.

Lips are a bit harder to pull off a no makeup look for, because most products either have intense pigments or they are subtle color but glossy @Anonymous.  Benefit cosmetics makes several shades of tint, which are a bit more subtle and not shiny.  I know this sounds funny, but if you want to start to play with subtle lip color and slowly get comfortable with the look and feel, consider Lipsmackers from the drugstore.  They're basically chapstick with a bit more color.  The Dr.Pepper one is my fav (yes, that was just said by a 35 year old woman). There are several drugstore products that are similar, but marketed in a slightly more adult way, if you prefer 😊

@Anonymous, that's how most of us have become these storehouses of beauty knowledge... we've literally been instructed in the various bits since age 10 or so; by this point that's 20-30 years of experience. BUT a lot of us also learned lots of it alone, by trial and error, so you're going about learning all this stuff way more efficiently, even if it doesn't feel like it. I admire that you took the plunge and started posting here.
