eye makeup tips and tricks

Hii

I have recently been practicing using eye shadow. When I try to do eye shadow makeup I donโ€™t know how to go about it because when I apply it, it looks like itโ€™s just on my whole lid. I guess I donโ€™t how to shape the eyeshadow on my eyes? So does anyone have any tips on how to make eyeshadow look more united?

@nameitt Eye shadow application depends on your eye shape.

I would watch Marlena Stell's Youtube videos where she breaks down eye shapes and application.

Re: eye makeup tips and tricks

Hi @nameitt! It depends on your eye shape and style. There are a lot of tutorials on YouTube that can show you. I enjoyed some of the ones on Sephoraโ€™s channel. They really helped me out with placement. Once you know your eye shape, itโ€™s easier to narrow down what tutorials to watch.

Another thing you can do is book some time with a makeup artist at Sephora. If you just want to focus on eyes, 30 minutes should be enough. Bring a photo or two for inspiration and the makeup artist will help you recreate that on your face. Ask questions and they can turn it into a mini lesson and give you tips on how to recreate it again at home with your own makeup. Iโ€™ve done it before and learned a lot.

Re: eye makeup tips and tricks

you might need to consider your eye shape when it comes to proper placement of eyeshadow. a lot of tutorials are based on eyeshapes with lots of lid space. if you have more hooded or monolid eyes, you might have to look for advice from people with similarly-shaped eyes to you.

general tips:

1. matte shadows make features "recede" and shimmery shadows make features "pop" - so matte shadows will give you depth, and shimmer will make features come forward. place the matte shadows on the crease and outer corners of the eyes, and shimmers on the lid to create depth.

2. blending helps unite colours.

3. colour theory!!!! make sure you don't try to blend complementary/opposing colours (like yellow and purple, red and green, or orange and blue) with each other, or else you will end up with a muddy mess. to combat this, make sure to "transition" between colours with a colour closer to the colour you are trying to blend (ex., pink with purple, or green with blue). a colour wheel can help you decide which colours to choose.

here are some videos that helped me, but be sure to search for "eyeshadow placement tutorials" or something similar:

1.

-  eyeshadow tips for beginners

2.

- updated tricks from the youtuber who made the video above

3.

- in-depth blending tutorial

- doing your eyeshadow for your eyeshape

5.

- how eyeshadow placement changes your eyeshape

6.

- alexandra anele eyeshadow playlist

good luck, and have fun experimenting to discover what works best for you!
