WHY.

Someone tell me why in Sephora, they dont have every items that brands offers.

Example:

The skincare brand Lancer has alot more than what's on Sephora. They also have bundles on other websites too, but not on Sephora.

The Ouai perfumes have different sizes, yet Sephora offers only 1 size (the biggest).

This might be to make more money, but in the end it makes us the customer, less happy, because we dont have the different options.

Sephora, for alot of people is an easier way to have access to certain products, and so if they carry a brand, they should have every items and every sizes that the brand offers.

It seems like some people at Sephora (behind the scene, not in stores) arnt doing they're job right, Or, it could be the companies themselves not wanting for Sephora to have everything, but who knows.

Re: WHY.

No one retailer can carry every item from every brand they carry, unless they significantly restrict the number of brands they offer. Shelf space and warehouse space are both finite. They could carry 100 items from one brand, or 20 items from 5 different brands. Sephora is not looking to be the Lancer storefront; they are looking to mix things up by offering a little of this and a little of that to appeal to a wider slice of consumers. Offering all of Ouai's perfumes means something else would have to go, but maybe Sephora isn't willing to cut out, say, PMG eyeshadows or Tower 28 makeup to make room for them. Sephora continually adjusts brands (and products offered within those brands) as they see fit, to maximize turnover and profit.

Brands also play a role in what items go to which retailers. Too Faced sent their Tutti Frutti line exclusively to Ulta, while Sephora got the Peach line. Tarte's Double Duty Beauty (including Shape Tape) is exclusive to Ulta, while Sephora got the Rainforest of the Sea line. And brands make around a bazillion different sets to send to various retailers...some might overlap from store to store, but others don't.

Sephora doesn't claim to be a source for every single item from every single brand they carry, and it seems unfair to expect them to, as that's not how retail works. But if you are unhappy with the selection they offer, thankfully, you have options to shop elsewhere.

Re: WHY.

Thanks guys, my little hamster calmed down even tho I was mostly ranting 😂😂😂😊😊😊

Re: WHY.

@Emy10 there's a lot that goes into deciding what a retailer is allowed to carry and you'll find almost all brands have exclusives somewhere (specific kits on Sephora that aren't on their retailer site, or a specially curated product for a sale - there were a bunch of Nordstrom recently, ulta had exclusives as well) Theyre all negotiated by the retailer with the brand to help push sales. Likely if you aren't seeing a particular size it has to do with cost of production vs profit margin - Sephora takes a cut of the sale so it's possible that the brand isn't getting the return on product that they would need to sell through Sephora or it can be something as boring as the product size doesn't fit with the rest of the shelf or aesthetic.

Then there is the entire world of retailers who purchase up front and resell and that's and entirely different beast. Either or lots and lots of reasons as to product curation within a retailer and I doubt we will even know why some items appear versus others.

@Emy10

Most brands don't sell every single one of their product at Sephora, just a select few.  It's not Sephora employees doing a bad job.

If you want to buy something not sold at Sephora, you can check the brand's official site.

Re: WHY.

Most? I dont know about that, so far it's been with certain brands. But that's my experience.

Ee can by from brands directly of course, but as I said, Sephora can make certain purchases a bit easier.

As for employees, i also said that it could be the brands deciding about what items would be available, I was not like "it's the employees fault!!".

Re: WHY.

I'm sure they just don't have room to carry every item that every brand sells, nor would they all sell well enough to.  A lot of brands have been leaving sephora recently, and products disappear all the time also.  They may start out carrying more items, but if they don't sell, then they get rid of them.  It's business.  Just bc it may be convenient for some ppl to do all their shopping in one place, doesn't mean that will make those products sell well enough to keep them around.  Stores generally carry the most popular items.  Then there are some items that are exclusive to certain stores.  They may not even be on the brands website.
