Sunscreen

Hi !

I was wondering, can you reapply a cream or lotion sunscreen over makeup ? Since it's nearly summer and I want to put more on every couple of hours.

Thanks !

Re: Sunscreen

Hi @mayalove33  ! Yes, you can apply a cream or lotion sunscreen over makeup throughout the day. That’ll be easier if the sunscreen’s invisible and doesn’t need lots of rubbing to blend out.

I often carry a tube of Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen Invisible Broad Spectrum SPF 40 PA +++ 1.7 oz/ 50 mL in my bag, plus a flat round makeup sponge (the type that comes in powder compacts). I use the sponge to dab and spread sunscreen over my makeup.

If I carry a sunscreen stick instead, I usually run the stick over my skin—ensuring I do 4-5 passes on each part of my face for adequate UV protection—and then use the sponge to further spread the sunscreen around for good coverage. You could also try a sunscreen spray, but don’t just spray it on your face. Spray a lot of it into your hands first, then apply that to your face. That’s the only way to get good coverage from a spray, without wasting product (spraying into the air around you).

I used to use sunscreen powders like Supergoop! 100% Mineral (Re)setting Powder Face Sunscreen SPF 35  to reapply throughout the day. I stopped after learning from my dermatologist and Lab Muffin that powders don’t offer good enough coverage: it’s hard to ensure you get enough powder on every square centimeter of your face. Still, it’s an option to consider. 🤷‍♀️

Re: Sunscreen

Hi @mayalove33 I agree, I think we should be reapplying our spf, especially if we're out in the sun. I use Shiseido Clear Sunscreen Stick SPF 50 0.7 oz / 20 g  over my makeup, but there are others out there and I've heard of people using SPF powders or sprays over thier makeup.
