My make up is pilling!!!

Ok so I have a great skincare routine but it seems like every time I put it on in the morning and wait a few minutes to let it sink into my skin it pulls after starting to apply my make up. I’m even using a primer and it does the same thing. Plus it seems like my make up is dry at times and separating. This specifically happens around my nose where I have sebbhorric dermatitis and sometimes around my lips. I think it could also potentially be the color of my foundation might be too yellow? I’m not sure I had a foundation match done at a Sephora in person.

Then other days it looks absolutely perfect. Can someone give me some advice?

Re: My make up is pilling!!!

@abbyschmoyer Have you thought about using a skin tint/tinted moisturizer instead of foundation? Since they tend to be a bit more hydrating while also being not as thick as foundation? Sometimes i like to use one and then conceal any spots that could use more coverage.

Also, is the foundation you use now a hydrating one?

As far as advice, I know for my nose area i like to not put product directly there and instead use any excess product on my brush/beauty blender and go over my nose to help decrease the chances of it building up and separating.

Re: My make up is pilling!!!

Yes! I am currently using the Laura mercier Oil-free naturalizer skin tint with SPF. It is a moistirizing skin tint. Do you have any recommendations?

Thank you again for the advice I’ll definitely take that into consideration going forward.

@abbyschmoyer

Things that usually cause piling are water based products interacting with an oil or silicone.  You can sometimes use a water based foundation with a silicone, but the reverse usually isn't true.

Actives (like BHA/AHA or vitamin C) can also cause this.  Sometimes sunscreens can cause piling.

Color of foundation shouldn't affect the lasting power?  Usually the nasal folds are more prone to being oily.  You could always try using less product in that area, blotting papers for touch ups, or setting that area lightly with setting powder.

Re: My make up is pilling!!!

Are there certain products you recommend? I have extremely sensitive, acne prone skin, with a dry/combination skin type.

Re: My make up is pilling!!!

@abbyschmoyer, sorry just seeing this.

So, I have combo skin, where the oiliness is t-zone.  For my nose, if I see separation, I use more moisturizer and less foundation in that area.  Any gel moisturizer can work, my current faves are #Dr. Jart+ Vital Hydra Solution™ Water Cream Glow Moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid 1.69 oz / 50 mL acne belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb with Hyaluronic Acid and Niacinamide .

I haven't used the foundation you named above, but technique wise, use less like I mentioned.  I have texture around my nose, so I like to stipple it in.  You could also use a small sponge, either a wedge or a mini beautyblender.
