Makeup event

Hi guys, 

 

I am going to my first ever makeup event, soon, and although it's not anything too big, I was wondering how do these events work? 

I understand the service/consultation given is for free, but do the makeup artists/brand expect you do buy something?

 

Can anyone give me some info?
