Makeup is pretty subjective, TBH.  If you like a brand, it's usually worth the hype to you.  Every now and then, an item has poor performance or performs okay, but not better than other similar products.  If anything, with luxury brands you're  paying towards the brand name in price @SephoraShare before deciding on 'hype' because they're usually effective at marketing 

 

There's some brands that put out stellar products, but have little to no hype d/t how they are marketed and perceived
