How do you clean your Makeup brushes?

As I get into wearing makeup, I realize the importance of cleaning my brushes. I bought Cinema Secrets during the sale and though they cleaned my brushes really well, I'm worried just how efficient it was?

In the long run is it okay to clean brushes weekly with Cinema Secrets? Would you recommend using something else?

Whats your favourite way to clean your brushes??

I use Dr Bronners Lavender Pure Castile Bar soap and my ELF brush mat. The bar soap works just as well as the solid BB cleanser and I got the mat at Target on clearance for $5. All together I spent about $10! The Sigma mat is great but it’s $30-40 and brush cleaners can go up to $30. I’d rather spend my money on more makeup brushes! Lol. I do own the biggest bottle of Cinema Secrets and the tin as well. There’s nothing that compares to that and it’s nice for a super quick cleanse. But deep cleaning once a week...I don’t mind going inexpensive.

@darlyndar Does the Dr. Bronner's have a heavy lavender scent? The Sigma Express Mat costs $25 & the regular-sized $32, which can be pricy. But if you happen to purchase during a sale, like the recent 25% off promotion, it's not too bad 🙂

@ohheyitscindyk It has a scent but nothing heavy. I’ve never smelled it on my brushes after I rinse them out unlike the Cinema Secrets. I’m all for splurging on luxury makeup and great skincare so cutting corners like a $5 makeup brush mat from ELF and a $5 soap as opposed to a $30 mat and a $20 soap is a great find to me. But hey! I’d never knock anyone who wants to buy it either! Lol

@Aaliaa Like @ilovebears, I use the Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Mat. I definitely recommend it- I hate cleaning my brushes, but it's really cut down on the time, so I have no excuse not to clean my brushes now 🙂

I use the Benjabelle Organic Brush Shampoo with my Sigma Spa Express Brush Cleaning Mat.

Any gentle brush shampoo will do, and a silicone mat really helps to get brushes super clean!

I hate, hate, hate cleaning my brushes!   But, what seems to work well for me is using either the Cinema Secrets or Japonesque Brush spray on a daily basis and then deep cleaning every so often with a liquid soap, like the one from It Cosmetics.  

I also use beauty blenders and I wash those every single day with a solid bb cleanser (I prefer the pro version) - I do not want to risk mold or bacteria on those babies.

I clean mine with essential oils. I use dōTERRA’s OnGuard for sanitizing and melaleuca for getting rid of bacteria. I also put in a little Castille soap for cleaning.
