Helpful Sephora employees?

What are your experiences with Sephora employees? I tend to mostly ask for finding a specific product and not for product recommendations for the most part because I feel like their recommendations aren't helpful usually. Case in point, I was looking for a new sleeping mask, and asked the skincare cast member for some ideas and she recommended the Murad City Skin overnight detox moisturizer which was really expensive and not very impressive and then I asked for another option that was more affordable and she recommended something even more expensive which was ridiculous. I ended up looking in the K beauty section by myself and tried out the new Glow Recipe Watermelon sleeping mask which was perfect. I had a similar baffling experience a while back when I was trying to decide between the NARS creamy concealer or the Kat Von D concealer and the makeup cast member basically refused to give an opinion and said both were good and she didn't want to give me a recommendation and for me to not like it.

Re: Helpful Sephora employees?

I'm not a fan of Sephora employees in general. Most of them are rude, and the helpful ones usually give unsolicited advice. Recently two different employees convinced me to try products I ended up hating. The first time I was asking her questions about a Kat Von D lipstick I'd gotten in my Play box, and she practically forced me to try a different lipstick which was ok in store but ended up having a horrible texture in comparison to the Kat Von D lipstick I wanted.

Now I just go and help myself. I seem to know more about makeup than some of them, and I definitely know what my skin/hair/lips etc. need better than they do.

I have had nothing but good experiences, the most recent, I had a super great employee give me the best advice. And it is working.

Her name was Kelly. Anyway she gave me recommendations for moisturizer and matched my skin perfectly for foundation.

It sucks to see others not getting the same treatment, so sorry.

RE: Helpful Sephora employees?

I think it really depends on the store. I work in a small volume store so I have more time to get product training from my leadership team or brand representatives and I have a wonderful senior artist at my store that I can ask all my questions to. Sephora prides itself on all the product and technique training that it has for their cast members (that's what makes Sephora different than Ulta) but it's really up to every store to make sure that they're giving their cast the opportunity to receive all that training.
