Eye primer

I am here to get recommendations on best eye primer for brown skin.

Re: Eye primer

@Glambykarm Oooh, ok.  I have a stockpile of old primers, too... I will list them, but you might only find them in resale land because they aren't in production anymore ๐Ÿ˜ญ.

Urban Decay Original (before the last formula change)

Urban Decay Caffeine - this was MY EXACT shade. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Nars Primer, tinted

Ace Beautรฉ

Sephora Colorful Eyeliner (not the current skinny ones, the chunky pencils)

When it comes to current, I'm with @WinglessOne with NARS Pro-Primeโ„ข Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base Original  .  It's definitely the goat.  It's white, because of its base, but you can tap that out to your desired consistency.

I also like PAT McGRATH LABS IntensifEYESโ„ข Longwear Eyeshadow Primer IntensifEYESโ„ข Longwear Primary  .  Some folks hate it, ๐Ÿ˜‚.  It's not clear, but it's got an oily slightly tinted finish to it that I think works well for my oily almond eyes, so I love it.  If you're interested, but concerned about that texture, you can get it drier but setting it with setting powder, the way you'd do a concealer.

There's also Colorfix!  They will set on you if you're not careful + only use a tiny amount, but they are excellent primers as Danessa has nudes specifically in the line - excellent for deeper shades.

Danessa Myricks Beauty Colorfix Eye, Cheek & Lip Cream Pigment - Nudes Collection Nude 7

Re: Eye primer

@danielledanielle - Yes, I used About Face eye primer too.  That one is very nice.  I just wasn't crazy about the wand. ๐Ÿ˜„

Re: Eye primer

@Glambykarm @MAC prep and prime 24 hour eye base

Re: Eye primer

@SportyGirly125 I bought once with advice of one of the employee there but its very dark in shade. Itโ€™s flawless no doubt but very dark on my eyes.

Re: Eye primer

@Glambykarm @The eye base is clear. Are you sure itโ€™s the same one I mentioned?

Re: Eye primer

Thanks for the tag, @Titian06 !

@Glambykarm โ€œBest eye primer for brown skinโ€ depends on what you need a primer to do. Example: I have hooded eyes and my lids arenโ€™t as oily as most peopleโ€™s, so when I look for eye primers, I prioritize grip (tacky texture thatโ€™ll hold shadows in place) over surface smoothing. Also, some folks like sheer/invisible primers while others want a strongly tinted one thatโ€™ll make shadow colors pop on deep skin tones. And then, some people just want a primer thatโ€™s closer to their skin tone to even out hyperpigmentation, redness, etc. on their lids.

Soโ€ฆ what do you want/need in a primer? ๐Ÿ™‚

My all-time favorite primer is the old Smashbox Photo Finish 24 Hour Shadow Primer. The OLD formula in the all-silver tube, not the current one that comes in a long narrow tube with white label. The reformulation is nowhere near as good (for me) as the old one. The old oneโ€™s quite grippy and locks shadows in place once Iโ€™ve blended โ€˜em out. I still have one tube and Iโ€™m nursing the heck out of it. ๐Ÿ˜… But again, I need a grippy primer for my hooded eyes. You might actually like the newer formulation, depending on what you need a primer to do.

Nowadays I mostly use MAC Prep + Prime 24-Hour Extend Eye Base. It works well for me, though not as well as the old Smashbox primer. Sometimes I use a neutral matte shade of  Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Waterproof Cream Eyeshadow Stick  as a primer, especially when traveling. BBโ€™s shadow sticks (well, the matte ones) have a slightly tacky texture that can hold onto powder shadows, and I can choose from various base colors. More recently, Iโ€™ve used Lisa Eldridge Liquid Silk Eyeshadow as a primer: itโ€™s more of a smoothing base than a grippy base, but it works well a a full lid color with a powder shadows added to the outer corner for some smoke.

If you need more of a smoothing primer, NARS Pro-Primeโ„ข Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base  is a good option. NARS used to offer it in a few different skin tone shades, but now thereโ€™s only the original sheer white tint.

Re: Eye primer

Hi, @Glambykarm !  OK, I'm not brown; I'm pasty white.  I recommend MAC Prep & Prime eye primer.  It goes on and dries sheer.  Of course I can only speak for my pasty white self, but I was concerned it would have a tint.  It's available at Ulta.

Maybe @danielledanielle or  @WinglessOne has a recommendation? ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Eye primer
