Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

I think we can all agree that this year was the worst overall but I’m redoing this tag again to hear all about your favorite and regret purchases of the year.  I love to read everyone’s responses and I think it’s a great way to look back on our purchases and review all our goodies.

1) Your favorite purchase of the year.

2) A purchase you regret- why?

3) Most expensive purchase- was it worth the money?

4) Most hyped product you bought- was it worth it?

5) Did you spend less, the same, or more than other years?

6) Rediscovered loves or underrated/underhyped makeup discoveries

7) A product you missed out on or haven't bought yet but really want

8 ) Did your makeup routine change in any way?

9) What makeup trend do you think will be big next year?

*New question this year to replace the previous #5 which was whether you shopped more online or in store (I think that one answers itself)

10) What is your favorite self care item or activity?

Here’s my answers! Can’t wait to see everybody’s answers!

1) NATASHA DENONA Glam Eyeshadow Palette null - I’d been wanting a cool toned neutrals palette and this hit the spot for me.

2) DIOR Dior Forever Skin Correct Full-Coverage Concealer - It creases under my eyes and I couldn’t get a good match. I also ended up returning the Natasha Denona Bronze Face Glow Palette , which didn’t work out at all for me.

3) PAT McGRATH LABS Mothership VII Eyeshadow Palette - Divine Rose Collection - I bought this with a Rouge Reward but I probably would’ve picked it up regardless.

4) I think PMG and ND are the most hyped brands that I bought, and they are usually worth the hype for me. CT was also a big favorite of mine this year.

5) I think I spent less on makeup this year but more on clothes as I picked up some nicer pieces than I usually would.

6) Lorac rebranded and released a few palettes with new formulas. The Noir palette is fantastic and really underrated. My only con with it is that it’s now made in China, which I tend to avoid in makeup. Otherwise, highly recommend it!

7) I’m really sad that I missed out on the Tom Ford Meteoric quad since it appears it was limited edition. Otherwise, I still really want the PMG Highlighter from her holiday collection and the PAT McGRATH LABS Mothership I Eyeshadow Palette - Subliminal .

😎 I still did a full face most days, although maybe a little less than previously. I did have to switch to more matte foundations and using more powder products that I would normally.

9) I think we’ll keep seeing more minimalist and matte makeup.

10) My favorite self-care activity is curling up with a book and drinking coffee with some Cookie Butter powder in it.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

@heartsmyface  Oh a hike would be wonderful!! I wish we had more hiking around here. It’s been cold here too. This week it’s supposed to warm up! Maybe I’ll do my makeup tomorrow to check if I still have any skills left!! It’s been nice to go to work but I’m down hours again so I only work 2 days this week. Although the spare time has kept my house clean!!

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

I also purchased the Peter Thomas Roth PRO Strength Niacinamide Discoloration Treatment but I am unsure how to use it within my skincare routine @heartsmyface. If someone could guide me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

@Loretta55   I apply it right after cleansing or a peel directly onto any discolouration so it remains at full potency and isn’t mixed in with other skincare and then I wait a few minutes to apply everything else as I normally would.  Does it make a difference?  I’m not sure but I’ve convinced myself that the first product applied is going to be the most effective cause it’s not diluted down.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

@heartsmyface @Loretta55  I also use it and that’s how I use it. My exact thoughts are I apply it first. I also do the same with my eye creams. I want the full power to work without any diluted!!! Hope you love it. It’s done wonders for my skin!!

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

I am building up to everyday use @ather @heartsmyface . I am hopeful that at least one of my larger spots will be gone.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

Thank you very much for the response @heartsmyface. I hope that it will play nice with my Murad Mini Retinol Youth Renewal Serum 0.33 oz/ 10 mL and Murad Vitamin C Glycolic Brightening Serum 1 oz/ 30 mL . That was the main reason that I am hesitant about trying it.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

@Loretta55   Nicinamide actually helps you tolerate retinol better and works very well with vitamin C so you’re safe as long as you’re using the vitamin C and retinol in separate skincare sessions:)

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

Thank you very much for your response @heartsmyface . I use the vitamin C regimen in the am and my retinol regimen in the pm. I plan on trying the Peter Thomas Roth PRO Strength Niacinamide Discoloration Treatment  today.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

@Loretta55   Ouhhh, I’m kicking myself for not taking before photos of my shoulder freckles cause they’re all but gone now!  You might want to take some before photos for your own review purposes:).

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

Thank you very much for the advice @heartsmyface. I have large dark spots on my face that I would like to see gone without leaving a scar. I am hopeful that at least one of them will be gone.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

I was looking on the Colourpop site and it looks like the Sailor Moon collection is back in stock @heartsmyface.  I was also thinking about that one.

And you're right, yoga is such a great self-care step.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

@Nickelliebear1  oh wonderful thank you!  I waited for that one and purchased it only to be told a few days later they didn’t have enough stock and my order didn’t go through.  Lol, then I vowed against them until the candy land collection came out and it happened again.  They’re a brand I want products from but am turned off by the ‘we sold more than we have’ emails.
i may venture on quietly and take a look now that the hype has dissipated.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

@heartsmyface I was checking out their EOY sale (with my Galentine in mind) but ended up getting really turned off when the last scandal surfaced.  😪

The maple tax was about to hit me pretty hard, lol.  I'll eventually splurge on new lip pencils, don't need a massive box of 'em.  Everything else has been pretty meh for me, although it's been years since I've placed an order. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't eyeing Sailor Moon or Hello Kitty though.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

@Nickelliebear1  Ha Maple tax!  Yeah that’s a real

deterrent.  Colorpops prices aren’t so appealing once they’re doubled by shipping and duties.
i like Marcelle lip liners If you’re looking for neutral shades.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

@heartsmyface @Nickelliebear1 🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁 tax had me sobbing 😂

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

1) Your favorite purchase of the year.

PAT McGRATH LABS Mothership VIII Artistry Eyeshadow Palette - Divine Rose II Collection

2) A purchase you regret- why?

At the end of 2019, I purchased a 3LAB Skincare overnight mask from Barney's when Barney's was going out of business. Mainly because I wanted to try the brand. I haven't used it that much because it makes me break out

3) Most expensive purchase- was it worth the money?

My Augustinus Bader moisturizer set that I purchased in March 2020 when Nordstrom had the 25% off beauty sale. I always wanted to try them, and they do work very well. I used them up, so it was worth it. I still use other moisturizers, too.

4) Most hyped product you bought- was it worth it?

Probably the Augustinus Bader moisturizers.

5) Did you spend less, the same, or more than other years?

Probably less.  With COVID and stay at home restrictions, I've been wearing less foundation than I ordinarily would.

6) Rediscovered loves or underrated/underhyped makeup discoveries

Even with COVID, I'm still enjoying lipstick. In particular, the Dior Dior Addict Lipstick formula.

7) A product you missed out on or haven't bought yet but really want

I still need a good orange-themed eyeshadow palette. 🍊

8 ) Did your makeup routine change in any way?

In general, less foundation and less eye looks because of going out less and wearing masks when I do. I've purchased much less foundation this year

9) What makeup trend do you think will be big next year?

Spring is coming so we're getting into pink season. With my PAT McGRATH LABS Mothership VII Eyeshadow Palette - Divine Rose Collection and PAT McGRATH LABS Mothership VIII Artistry Eyeshadow Palette - Divine Rose II Collection palettes, I own enough pinks, so I don't see me buying any new eyeshadow for Spring and probably Summer.

*New question this year to replace the previous #5 which was whether you shopped more online or in store (I think that one answers itself)

10) What is your favorite self care item or activity?

Using a thick, moisturizing overnight mask.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

@itsfi  Thanks for the tag!! This is so fun!!!

1) Your favorite purchase of the year.

Olaplex No. 0 Intensive Bond Building Hair Treatment #I think it’s my favourite because it’s really helped my hair come back to life. It’s helped my hair grow longer. Feels stronger and softer too.

2) A purchase you regret- why?

amika Hair Blow Dryer Brush I bought it instead of the Dyson and I wish I would have just got the Dyson.

3) Most expensive purchase- was it worth the money?

Not sure if it was the most expensive but the amika Hair Blow Dryer Brush Totally not worth it. For me it’s just easier to use a blow dryer.

4) Most hyped product you bought- was it worth it?

I’m thinking the most hyped product I bought was Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm Vanilla And I love it

5) Did you spend less, the same, or more than other years?

I’m pretty sure I spent more this year. More time at home so I bought more since online shopping is so easy. More time to hear people talk about new items!

6) Rediscovered loves or underrated/underhyped makeup discoveries

I totally forgot about the SEPHORA COLLECTION Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer Worked perfect for my less makeup looks I have been doing. Has a perfect amount of coverage and blends flawlessly.

7) A product you missed out on or haven't bought yet but really want

I really want the dyson Airwrap™ Complete Styler Limited Edition Copper Gift Set Complete Styler Limited Edition Copper Gift Set I was going to pick it up during the sale but had second thoughts. I still want it tho. Wish I would have picked it up.

8 ) Did your makeup routine change in any way?

I definitely started wearing less makeup since I had to wear a mask most of the day. Trying to prevent more acne if possible. I focused more on my skincare routine to help my skin look brighter.

9) What makeup trend do you think will be big next year?

I’m thinking getting super glamorous will be big in 2021. Once we are able to go out again without a mask on I think it will be fun to get super dressed up and full face of makeup on!

*New question this year to replace the previous #5 which was whether you shopped more online or in store (I think that one answers itself)

10) What is your favorite self care item or activity?

My favourite self care item would be bath salts and bubble bath and candles. I take a bath every night and it’s made my bath more relaxing! My favourite activity is yoga. I use to do it every day but after I had my little man I stopped. I picked it back up when quarantine happened it’s my favourite way to practice self care during the day!

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

I hope that you are correct about wearing glam makeup again @ather. I am looking forward to a great night out or a glamorous event to attend once the pandemic is over.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

@ather Yes to Olaplaex 0! It is awesome!

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

You love the Summer Fridays lip butter balm,  @ather? Hmmm... 🤔 making a note of that now. 📝 The Dyson will be around this year and there will be another sale! It took me years before I finally picked up a Dyson for myself.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2020 Edition]

@itsfi  Omg I love it. I actually already have a back up 🤣

So you have the DDG face mask and a Dyson which one is better. I’ve been debating both. And I really want to splurge and get one this year!!! But I don’t know which one. I’m leaning toward the DDG because I air dry my hair and I suck so bad at styling my hair so I’m thinking the Dyson might end up collecting dust. Thoughts? Do you have the Dyson dryer or the air wrap? Sorry for bugging you
