Best Minimalist Face Base

Alright guys! Let's get this minimalist group started, shall we?

Today's subject: Minimalist bases

What are your favorite base products to use when you're not feeling a lot of coverage? Foregoing a base? What about a spot concealer then?

My favorite combo on a minimal day:

  • Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer to blur and slightly mattify my post-skincare/sunscreen sheen
  • UD One & Done - this gives me juuuust enough coverage to feel comfortable most of the day.
  • NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer to spot conceal. I'm prone to dark spots and the occasional clogged pore so sometimes I just need a little extra something
  • Bonus: If I haven't slept I'll dab a tiny bit of Innisfree My Color Corrector in Peach under my eyes to brighten them!

Your turn!

@malday
Any ideas what brand I can look at for those? Because I would be interested in them. A lot of the time I just end up mixing white and olive pigments into the BBs I usually use.  I would love to just whip out a tube and be done with it.

Re: Best Minimalist Face Base

I wish tinted moisturizer worked for me! It would make my life so much easier haha

Re: Best Minimalist Face Base

I'm really just evening out the freckles gifted to me by a ginger parent. I expect my days of tinted moisturizer are limited as a climb up the ladder of my 40's. Which sucks since I have a slight olive undertone and fall in 01/02 shade territory where those options are limited.

Re: Best Minimalist Face Base

I don't use a base most days, but I do dust a little loose powder along my tzone to soak up any oils.

Current faves are NARS Velvet Loose Powder in Eden, and Stellar Haze powder.

Spoiler
Stellar Haze

Re: Best Minimalist Face Base

Oh I've heard so little about Stellar.  I'm glad to hear you like their loose powder!  Do you find you need to touch up a lot during the day?  I'm a shiny donut 😉 in constant need of either blotting sheets or powder.  Do you reapply during the day or are you more of a one and done? @Mochapj

Re: Best Minimalist Face Base

@michelleshops I don't touch up with it during the day, mostly because I take the sifter out of the pot and that has big mess potential in my bag.

I do keep a different powder compact (Surratt) in my purse for emergencies but I rarely need it. The Stellar one gives just a touch of blurring without hiding the texture of the skin.

Re: Best Minimalist Face Base

Your skin looks fantastic! How do you like the NARS powder? I use the light reflecting one but I remember being interested in the tinted ones when they came out

Re: Best Minimalist Face Base

Thanks @malday!

I like the Velvet Loose a lot more than Crystal powder one - that one showed up too sparkly on me.

Eden was the perfect shade for me during the winter but I found that from May onwards it started looking too light/ashy so I probably need to go up a shade for it to not show up visibly in my fine lines.

Overall I like the VLP because it's light, doesn't clog my pores and doesn't look too blurry.

Re: Best Minimalist Face Base

I started mixing in a moisturizer into my foundation to add some dew and create more of a "natural" look all over the face and then spot conceal.  I take one part Glamglow illuminating moisturizer and 1 part Clinique stay matte foundation.  Blend this in with a beautyblender then spot conceal with a small brush and Tarte shape tape concealer.

I got this idea from Samantha Ravandahl on youtube so this wasn't my idea but I really love how it looks on the skin.  I tend to have combo-dry skin with some peeling every once in a while and this looks pretty good.

Re: Best Minimalist Face Base

Oh! I like the idea of mixing a matte foundation with moisturizer. I've tried it with regular foundations but I get a little too dewy sometimes.
