Any help for lost/stolen makeup?

I was out of town for a wedding and forgot my makeup bag hanging on the back of the bathroom door. I called the very next morning when I noticed this and then showed up to the hotel and it seems that the bag and all my prized makeup possessions inside of it are gone. The hotel was really unhelpful and rather rude through the whole experience and unwilling to help me out at all. I’m pretty sure a member of the hotel staff kept it for themselves, but I obviously have no proof. I’ve been adding up the items in the app and my loss has thus far totaled over $800. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, is there anything that I can do to get my makeup back without spending the full retail cost? Any advice on working with the hotel? Any help would be appreciated.

Did you ever get your makeup back ? Or did the hotel reimburse you?

@SaritaGatita I would go up the chain of command.  Start with the hotel manager at the location, then the regional manager, etc - all the way up to the C.E.O.  It might take some time, but I think a well-written letter would help you out.  I would focus on the egregious nature of the theft, the rude/unhelpfulness of the staff when you reported it, and an explanation of very much your makeup items mean to you.  The key is to be persistent.  

Of course the hotel will fall back on their policy of not being responsible for lost or stolen items, but you may be able to get them to meet you halfway -- so that maybe they will reimburse you for part of the value.  Also, you could get the Better Business Bureau involved.  They specialize in mediating issues between customer and companies.
