I find it hard to browse for lipstick shades. You can sort lip products by things like bestselling or top-rated, but it's a bit harder to figure out which particular shades are the best. So I decided to start this thread to see which lipstick shades you reach for the most.
My five, in no particular order:
1. Dior Rouge Lipstick in Daisy Plum
2. Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint in Moody
3. Bobbi Brown Lipstick in Brownie
4. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita
5. Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Chihuahua
Bonus round:
These lipsticks are pretty dramatic for everyday wear, but when it comes to wearing a dramatic lip, these are the shades I reach for the most:
1. Dior Rouge Lipstick in Visionary Matte
2. Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick in Studded
Thanks for the heads-up @alexasteph! I'm always intrigued about wear brands are sold. For example, I always find a better selection of Essie nail polish at CVS than Ulta.
Hi @IciclePop,
I agree with @sprocketta, what a fun thread! I'll join in! Here's my top 5 most reached for lipsticks:
Best Regards,
❤️ Raquel
@RaquelBT I think it's funny how similar these colors are to one another. I definitely know your signature look! Is the Tarteist Rose one as light as your other picks, or is it darker? Because in that link you posted, it looks dark in the place where you select the color, but when you look at the product pictures in that same link, Rose looks a lot lighter in the picture of all the different swatches. (This is very important since I prefer how it looks in the picture where it looks darker! Haha)
Hi @IciclePop,
Hehe, you caught on to my lip trend! I feel like I can never have too many nude/muave lip colors, they are all so oddly different! For the color Rose, I first saw it in stores and I personally think that it looks way lighter in person! I didn't even realize how dark it looked online until you mentioned it. My skin tone is light-medium and it looks like a rosy-nude color on me, it's definitely one of my go-to everyday lippies. 🙂
Best Regards,
❤️ Raquel
What a fun thread! Mine are:
1) Clinique Pop lipstick in Cherry Pop
2) Huda liquid matte Trophy Wife (this is the only matte lipstick I will wear)
3) Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Lip in Rose b4 Bros (this transfers like crazy but the color and pigment are so stunning that I put up with it)
4) Clinique long last glosswear in tenderheart (discontinued, which breaks my heart)
5) Clinique pop lip lacquer in flame pop
Bonus:
Huda lip strobe in shameless. I wear this one on top of the Huda Trophy Wife (they came in a set together) and it creates the most beautiful combination.
Also a shout out to MAC prep + prime lip primer
I love Rose B4 Bros too. I love a lot of the Smashbox Be Legendary liquids. Iced Out is one of my favorites liquid shades by any brand, despite its commitment issues. Iced Out feathers/bleeds so badly, it’s one of the 2 lipsticks I always reach for whenever I test a new-to-me lip primer. (My other serial bleeder is Urban Decay Firebird.) But that glossy metallic deep blue is worth the extra effort needed to lock it in place.
MAC Prep + Prime Lip is my go-to primer. It won’t completely stop Iced Out’s bleeding (apparently no primer can), but it greatly reduces it—and does a far better job of it than any other lip primer I’ve tried.
I’ve never tried a Clinique lipstick and I’m not sure why. Hmm... note to self. (Like I need another excuse to do more lipstick shopping...)
@sprocketta Those Clinique lipsticks are intriguing! I don't think they have them at my Sephora, though. I'd go to a Clinique counter, but I never feel like the SAs give me enough room to browse.
@greeneyedgirl107Unidentified that's funny because I love shopping the Clinique counter at Macy's because they give so much attention and know the products so well. I found that lipstick because I went in and said I wanted a RED lipstick and they helped me try a few until I found the perfect one. Plus my favorite store associate lives across the street from me and he texts me about all the good deals as they come up. I'm all about getting help when I go beauty shopping. I agree they can be in your face and it's easier to browse in a larger store like Sephora or Ulta.
You should never feel pressured to buy something and some associates are pushy. It's hard to balance browsing at a counter like that.
@sprocketta Thanks for sharing your positive experience. Maybe I should branch out! 🙂
Man, all your picks bring a smile to my face. They’re so bright and cheerful! @sprocketta
@IciclePopUnidentified I love a bold lip. Excuse the unidentified, that's a glitch.
My app does the unidentified thing too!! Whats up with that?! After I "@" someone it says that and i have to tab to a new line to make it go away!
@GG84Unidentified I know! It's so obnoxious. It's been like that for a couple days now. I hope they fix it soon. I did see people reporting that issue on the proper thread.
@IciclePop I love talking about my favorite and most used lip colors!
The ones I have been reaching for most recently have got to be:
Sephora Collection liquid lipstick in Chai Latte
ABH liquid lipstick in Sepia
Huda Beauty liquid lipstick in Silver Fox
KVD everlasting liquid lip in Sanctuary
Colourpop liquick lipstick in Trap
I love all nude lipsticks, especially the cool tone or brown nudes. I also love wearing darker shades and berry tones but I save those for the winter.
Oh I love Chai Latte! I don’t know if I could pull it off or not, but you’re making me want to run down to a Sephora store and see! @Glarson
@IciclePop Chai Latte is definitely the lipstick that I wear the most, it permanently resides in my purse! I love how it is almost a grayish cool toned color. I always describe it as looking almost unsettling, since it isn't a normal warm toned nude, but I love it so so much, especially pairing it with a daring eye look. I highly recommend that you try it on, the price is also amazing, and let me know what you think!
Yes, it has so many perks to it. Cool-toned (up my alley), gray (which is a flattering color on me), and would pair well with dramatic eye looks (since I do dramatic eye looks more often than dramatic lips)! My big concern is that it'll look too light on me to be flattering, which is why I'd need to try it on first. @Glarson
@IciclePop Well I hope it works out and remember to update me if you do end up trying it on!
The 5 shades I wear most often, in no order:
Interesting that none of those are liquids... I love MUFE’s liquid mattes and I’m very impressed with Lancôme’s L’Absolu glosses (including the Lacquer glosses), but those 5 solids are what I wear most often.
Cheating a bit: let’s call Frog Prince a tinted balm instead of a lipstick. Then I can swap it on the list for either MAC Red or Urban Decay Bad Blood. Bad Blood’s definitely more of a tomato red and probably the one I wear more often.
Okay, I actually gasped out loud when I saw C603 Midnight. I think you win this whole thread, because no other post has actually made me gasp! I love Rebel, too, and Frog Queen has intrigued me for a while because I’ve always thought it’d be cool to apply it in a public bathroom so that it looks like I’m about to turn my mouth green. Great choices! @WinglessOne
Thanks! C603 seems to looks quite blue on most folks, but on me it’s more of a dark teal. Everyone should try it out in a Sephora—even folks who hate (or think they hate) blue lipstick.
Frog Prince public application has definitely gotten me some confused stares and “hey, that’s not green at all, what is that” questions. It’s what I wear whenever I’m not wearing some other lipstick or gloss. It’s truly my perfect pink nude. If you don’t wanna buy the full size, Ulta sells a mini tube now. I always keep a mini in my purse/bag... I never leave home without it.
And yay, another Rebel fan! I said my list was in no particular order but honestly, Rebel’s what I reach for more than anything else. If forced to travel with only one lipstick, I’d pick Rebel.
