Lippies

Hello beauty community! 🙂 Can you guys recommend me some lip products that work well. To help keep mine nice and moisturized 💋

Re: Lippies

@fancylady007 I have a whole thread on Lip Balms here Bomb Lip Balms!

Feel free to browse and add your own!

Re: Lippies

@fancylady007 @danielledanielle I see that you're looking for something to be able to throw on during the day... I LOVE a lip that I can put on without a mirror.  I'm a big fan of moisturizing products that are sheer, but still with a little coverage so that I enjoy the look of a lip product, but that is also very comfortable to wear.

  • Summer Fridays The Lip Butter Balm Set  Or any of the Summer Fridays lip butter balm sets.  I think they're a great balm that doesn't feel sticky, has what I call a 'plush' feel and are tinted enough that it looks polished, but you can still apply them without a mirror.
  • Ami Colé Hydrating Lip Treatment Oil  Pick any shade that you love, they're tinted, but not full on liquid lipstick tinted, they give a lovely wash of colour, that plush feeling and they leave my lips moisturized and shiny.
  • Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Stay Vulnerable Glossy Lip Balm  Another plush feeling, easy to apply lip product that feels great, gives a lovely wash of colour and comes in different shades depending on what you love.
  • Westman Atelier Squeaky Clean Liquid Lip Hydrating Lip Balm Pipsqueak  , if you're feeling a bit luxe the WA lip balm is hydrating, easy to apply, great lip feel, multiple shades available!
  • Yves Saint Laurent Candy Glaze Lip Gloss Stick  Another Luxe pick, the lip feel of this balm is great, there are a range of shades and I find if you get a more 'neutral' shade, they're super easy to throw on with a multitude of looks.
  • SEPHORA COLLECTION #LIPSTORIES Lipstick   A more budget friendly find, these are lipsticks but if you find a great 'my lips but better' shade, they're a great price point (hello 30% off during the sale) and perform quite well.
  • Gucci Glow & Care Shine Lipstick 216 My Cousin Rachel These are an all time favourite for me.  The shade "call it a day" is one that I can toss on anytime and it really goes with anything I wear.  I can apply without a mirror and while it leans more towards a sheer lipstick than a what I'd call a tinted balm... it's so comfortable!

I hope you let us know what you end up picking!  You've got some great suggestions here!!!

Re: Lippies

I love, love, love the Fenty Skin lip mask! It is so much better than the Laneige one (and a few dollars cheaper). The Fenty lip mask literally made my lips nice and moisturized the next day. Additionally, if your lips are cracking and crusty, this lip mask will literally recover your lips the next day. I know that Fenty recently came out with the Plush Puddin' holiday gift set, which comes with the original flavour and an exclusive Barbados cherry flavour!

Re: Lippies

@Retsuko I love your description of this one!! I've been eyeing the cherry version in the duo.... VERY tempted!

Re: Lippies

Thanks for the tag @danielledanielle , our favorite topic! 💄🥰

@fancylady007 like danielledanielle and @WinglessOne I share some of their favorites. Not sure what shades you like to wear tho you appear more natural, you’re a beauty! 💞 I go for brighter, deeper shades that also tend to leave a nice stain so that helps in not having to reapply or else just add a balm over to refresh. I also start with Aquaphor Ointment original or Farmacy Honey Butter Beeswax Lip Balm 0.12 oz/ 3.4 g  and then add my favorites. Most last quite long or with a quick swipe later on. I tend to like a semi-matte blue red the most and adding the balm ensures they won’t end up feeling too dry. All of the below brands offer the best range of thoughtful shades.

Love to hear what you end up getting! Now’s a great time during the sale. 🛍

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Matte Lip Blur Liquid Lipstick Ruby Blur  - I find this to be the most comfy liquid lip I’ve tried. Again the stain 🥰

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Fenty Icon The Fill Semi-Matte Refillable Lipstick Kissin' Kutie  - lots of shades that look so vibrant or natural and I love the stain they leave!

Gucci Long Lasting Satin Lipstick 506 Louisa Red  or Gucci Sheer Lipstick 213 Love is Better  -so comfy. A restock to be sure!

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Caring Satin Lipstick with Ceramides R21 Rouge Paradoxe and new nude shades are super easy to apply and feel great. Good saturated shades that last

MERIT Signature Lip Lightweight Lipstick Fashion  - so many soft shades to wear and they just feel so nourishing

Glossier Ultralip High Shine Lipstick with Hyaluronic Acid Vesper  - these can’t be beat for giving an instant pop of color along with Hyaluronic Acid to moisturize

#Hourglass Unlocked™ Satin Crème Lipstick Instinct 326 - I love how smooth and comforting these lipsticks are

Re: Lippies

@Sunnysmom Great suggestion with the Glossier!  I have a few and I really need to pull them out to give them some love!  I feel like I'm so behind the times on the Merit as well.  I feel like I haven't seen this much love for a formula since the Nars Audacious line came out.  I might need to cave here and pick at least one up.

Re: Lippies

Same with me @missjeanie ! 🤣 This reminded me to use mine more as well. They’re so good for those in-between times when the color doesn’t have to be so long-lasting ! (Isn’t Merit just the best line? I love it. The new red blush in the trio is so cute for that snowbunny look! I had to cave during the sale! )

MERIT Mini Flush Balm Cream Blush Set

Re: Lippies

@Sunnysmom I haven't tried a ton from Merit, I found a lot of their shades looked warmer where I prefer cooler.  I do have a few of the flush balms and love them though.  I'm still pondering #MERIT Solo Shadow Cream-to-Powder Soft Matte Eyeshadow Social but am worried that it may be patchy?  And I've seen a lot of love for their MERIT Great Skin Instant Glow Serum with Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid 1.69 oz / 50 ml  too....  Okay... time to do a Merit deep dive!

Re: Lippies

I do agree with you @missjeanie as I  prefer cooler shades too. It seems like the shadows can be a bit different in their texture. I don’t have Social so I’m not sure. Nelson is a good neutral grey that is very smooth and Viper similar. Not patchy on me whether alone or used with another shadow. I’ve been curious about the serum but haven’t tried it. Seems like it gets a lot of love. I need to do a deep dive quickly as well probably!! 💞

Re: Lippies

@Sunnysmom I was away for work last week and there happened to be a small Sephora so I took advantage of the last day of the sale and picked up a Merit Lipstick in Millennial and then ordered the #MERIT Solo Shadow Cream-to-Powder Soft Matte Eyeshadow Social .  I'd swatched the shadow before at a different store and it felt very hard and patchy.  The swatch this week felt soft and blended nicely on my hand.  I'm thinking this may be a formula that need the cap on nice and tight?  I did try the serum and wasn't super impressed.  It spat out of the dispenser making a mess and it took a long time to absorb into my hand.  I'd be willing to try it again, but not a full size right off the hop.  I'm leaning to trying out their concealer/foundation stick next if these two pick ups hold up for me.

Re: Lippies

@missjeanie I think you’re right. I noticed that with a few testers in store and one that I bought too. The replacement was fine. Tricky. Probably operator error but the lid challenges me to get it on correctly!😆  Again, tricky. 😂 I sampled the serum in store and also felt the same! I put another dot on. Nothing. Thought it was maybe just me and my skin but I barely noticed it and nothing spectacular sadly. Was hoping it was just me. 🥹So far I think the shadows, cheek and lip work best for me! 🤷🏻‍♀️The lip pencil and shimmery shadow look nice in the kit. Hope they roll those out as permanent in the regular line.

Re: Lippies

@Sunnysmom I was eyeing up that shimmer shadow as well.  I hope this is an intro to the permanent line up. I'm hopeful that if it goes over well we'll see some new shades!

Re: Lippies

Yes @missjeanie ! Paws crossed!

Re: Lippies

@fancylady007 I did a deep dive last year searching for my HG lip balm. Here are some of my favourites. Bomb Lip Balms!

Re: Lippies

Very helpful thank you! 🙂

Re: Lippies

Thanks for the tag, @danielledanielle !

@fancylady007 Lipstick hoarder and chronically dry-lipped person here. 😄 There aren’t many lip products (including glosses) I can use without a base layer of lip balm underneath. What’s your usual lip balm? Mine is Aquaphor Ointment. Not the Aquaphor product specifically marketed as lip balm, and not the “Lip Rescue Stick” either. Just plain ol’ Aquaphor Ointment. I always keep a little travel size tube in my purse/bag, and I have several tubes (and a big jar) at home. Really, any petrolatum ointment (Aquaphor, CeraVe Healing Ointment, Vaseline, store brand petroleum jelly, etc.) will give your lips maximum moisturization for hours, as long as you apply it to damp (with water, not saliva) lips to seal in hydration instead of dryness. I prefer Aquaphor because I like its texture, and it contains lanolin for extra hydration. I apply a thin layer as lip balm, gently press my lips on the back of my hand to remove any excess if I overapplied, and then apply lipstick over it.

Here are some lip products I can wear throughout the day without an Aquaphor base:

  • Ami Colé Hydrating Lip Treatment Oil  - I don’t even like lip oils in general (I still don’t quite understand the point of them), but this one’s nice. Doesn’t keep my lips moisturized as long as Aquaphor does, but it also doesn’t leave my lips feeling parched after a mere hour or two. These are sheer shades, so if you like bold or opaque color, you’ll need to apply a base of lipstick or lip liner first.
  • PAT McGRATH LABS Lip Fetish Sheer Colour Balm Clear (comes in several shades) - I usually use Aquaphor under these out of habit, but I can go without it and my lips will feel fine. The non-astral shades of this balm are very pigmented on me. Also consider PAT McGRATH LABS Lip Fetish Divinyl Lip Shine Electric Lotus  (and other non-astral shades); these are shinier/glossier than the other balms.
  • Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Slip Shine Sheer Shiny Lipstick  - definitely sheer coverage, but more pigmented than the Ami Colé lip oil. Vamps Who Brunch is one of my favorite sparkly lipsticks by any brand.
  • Gucci Sheer Lipstick  - I have 4 shades and some are more pigmented (eh, demi-sheer) than others. They’re all surprisingly comfy on my lips without an Aquaphor base.
  • GUERLAIN Rouge G Lipstick (the satin/creme ones) - many of these feel like butter on my lips. You don’t need to buy the “custom case” that goes with them; that case is big and bulky and awkward, so I almost never use the one I have. 😄 Each lipstick comes with a little plastic cap that stays on in my purse, so I don’t need the case.

EDIT: Sephora US doesn’t currently carry Pat McGrath’s Lip Fetish balms, so visit Pat’s site to see all available shades; you might even catch one of the brand’s frequent sales. Ditto for Guerlain, Fenty, and Gucci: Sephora does carry the Fenty and Gucci tagged lipsticks, but not the entire shade range.

If the Lipstick Queen brand was still around, I’d highly recommend those lipsticks too. Of everything I mentioned in my list (aside from Aquaphor), LQ’s lipsticks are generally the most comfortable and moisturizing. I keep hoping Poppy King (LQ’s founder) will someday restart the brand; she does have a self-named brand now, but obtaining her very few products is difficult here in the US.

Re: Lippies

(Hey @WinglessOne , just noticed Poppy released her new metallic red Original Sin in the US at Moda Operandi! I have not ordered it yet but probably will once all of these sales fevers calm down! She also mentioned she was doing some of her original sins eventually too! YESSSSS. 😍 Just thought I’d mention in case you’d missed her news. 🤗

Re: Lippies

Thanks for the heads-up, @Sunnysmom ! A short while ago (September or October), I got email from Moda Operandi about Poppy’s new lipstick (plus a few other new releases by other brands)—so of course I immediately clicked through their email, but the product showed as sold out. 😞 I wasn’t sure if MO had actually sold out of it that quickly, or if they’d accidentally announced too soon that it was available. Buuuut thanks to you, I’m back at their site and yay, the lipstick’s in stock now! FOMO demands I order it tonight! 😂

Looking forward to more from Poppy King!

Re: Lippies

Oh good @WinglessOne ! I figured you had but I know how these things pop in and out! Please let me know what you think when you receive it if you think of it as I probably won’t be ordering it quite yet. I have so so many lips to go through ( as if you didn’t know 🥹) and telling myself I can’t possibly add another one. Sure. Will see how long that sticks! Fomo from yours now for sure! 💞
