Lip masks?

What do you all use on your lips after a long day of wearing lipstick? I’m finding that my lips are dry and uncomfortable after wearing lipstick (which I’ve been doing a lot more of lately) no matter what formula I’m using. Normally I use Carmex at night, and I bought a Tarte lip recovery stick and I’ve also tried a sample of a Clinique overnight mask and none of them have been helping. Looking for any and all suggestions! Thanks BIC!

RE: Lip masks?

One of my favorite lip balms that actually does something is the Vaseline Lip Therapy Balm. This is the best for moisturizing my lips for an extended period of time. It actually makes a long term impact and is super affordable! I use it every night before bed

Re: Lip masks?

@KehDee I received this as a gratis and really like it.  I don't have severely dry lips, though.  I've used it a few times.  It's in a tub with a cover and a teensy spatula, which is really helpful.  Fair warning, the spatula can grab way too much.  It put it on really thick and when I wake up in the middle of the night I can feel it has sunk in.  My lips are softer and smoother in the morning.

BITE BEAUTY - Agave+ Nighttime Lip Therapy

RE: Lip masks?

I really appreciate all of your suggestions! I’m going to try a few and see what I like 🙂

Lip masks?

@KehDee I rotate between a few, but my favorites are bite, tatcha kissu mask, and bkr Paris water balm

Re: Lip masks?

I find that Carmex feels great short term but can be drying long term. Currently my favorite lip treatments are the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, the Sara Happ scrub and Lip Slip balm, and Holika Holika Golden Monkey Glamour Lip 3 step kit. The Laneige is lightest and doesn't always last until morning. The Sara Happ lip scrub is my favorite exfoliator and works even better when used in conjunction with the Sephora Refresh and Prep lip scrubber. After scrubbing my lips I pat on the Lip Slip, which is very thick and occlusive and lasts all night long. (I know they have their Dream Slip for nightime use but I haven't picked that up yet and the Lip Slip is working great for me at night). The Holika Holika has an exfoliating pad, hydrogel mask, and honey treatment. The honey treatment is amazing and there is enough in the packet for several applications so be sure to decant the extra into a clean jar for later use. Other folks have mentioned the Bite Agave lip mask and the Smith's Rosebud salve. The Bite is similar to the Lip Slip in terms of staying power but I find it to be stickier and a little less comfortable to wear. The Rosebud salve is very similar to Aquaphor or Vaseline and doesn't last very long for me - I prefer to use it during the day for shine and tint rather than healing. Sara Happ does have a lip mask which they were kind enough to send me to try but I have only used it once so far. However after using it (in conjunction with the lip scrub and lip slip) my lips were very nicely soft and hydrated.

Re: Lip masks?

I have had life-long dry and flaky lips, and the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask makes a hugely noticeable difference. It's the first thing I've tried that really does! I exfoliate with a sugar scrub every few days and apply the mask every night.

Re: Lip masks?

I like to scrub my lips with a mix of honey and brown sugar, and then I use BITE BEAUTY - Agave Lip Mask.

Before applying matte lipstick, I always apply a light layer of a lightweight balm. My favorites are MILK MAKEUP - KUSH Lip Balm - Green Dragon and AERIN - Rose Lip Conditioner

RE: Re: Lip masks?

This is one I’m looking at. I have it in my cart 😂

Re: Lip masks?

@KehDee   I had a sample of Clinique's Pep Start Pout Restoring Night Mask that I tried last night, not expecting much.

Boy was I wrong!  I didn't have to use any balm today at all!  It is only sold in a kit here at Sephora: https://www.sephora.com/product/skincare-tlc-kit-P442866?skuId=2215804&keyword=Clinique%20Pep-Start%...

I love Bite's Agave Lip Mask, but noticed when I got in the habit of using it, my lips would peel.  I have suspected I have an issue with lanolin before, even medical grade, and I wonder if that is  why my lips peeled, since the mask contains it.  And, of course, I stocked up on it during the holidays...

RE: Re: Lip masks?

I tried a sample of this Clinique one and it didn’t work for me 😞

Re: Lip masks?

Bites agave lip mask used to be my favorite night treatment and lipsmackers my favorite lip balm but I just recently got a kit with SOL DE JANEIRO - Brazilian Kiss Cupuaçu Lip Butter    my new favorite, it feel so natural on my lips sinks right in and I just adore it for summer. For winter I may still prefer BITE BEAUTY - Agave+ Nighttime Lip Therapy

Re: Lip masks?

@KehDee  I totally love BITE BEAUTY - Agave+ Nighttime Lip Therapy

and BITE BEAUTY - Agave Lip Mask

i never go without them now!

Re: Lip masks?

Do you wear anything (balm and/or lip primer) under your lipstick? If not, that can help your lips feel less dry after wearing lipstick.

I only have this drying problem after wearing matte lipsticks, especially liquid mattes. A lip scrub (I use ColourPop’s Lippie Scrub, but any good one will do) followed by Aquaphor ointment usually makes my lips feel much more hydrated and moisturized. Sometimes I top the Aquaphor with Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, if my lips are visibly dry/chapped.

RE: Re: Lip masks?

I don’t but I need to invest in something. Thanks for the tip!

Re: RE: Re: Lip masks?

@KehDee  My usual lip balm is plain ol’ Aquaphor ointment. I wear it under most lipsticks (liquid or bullet). Some lipsticks are emollient enough that I don’t need balm. But I always wear it under mattes. In the 100 Days of Lipstick thread, I just posted about a second balm I’ll be using frequently: Supergoop! AcaiFusion Lip Balm Broad Spectrum SPF 30 0.5 oz/ 15 mL  It works great under lipstick. 🙂

Before I apply any liquid matte, I top my balm with a lip primer. My favorite—the only one that actually works for me—is MAC Prep + Prime Lip. It seals in hydration and helps keep lipstick in place. There are other primers out there: some folks love Bite’s lip primer, others love Urban Decay’s. Neither of those work for me as lip primers, but your mileage may vary.

Re: Lip masks?

Hi @KehDee, I use and like both and  LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask Intense Hydration with Vitamin C Berry BITE BEAUTY - Agave Lip Mask.

The Bite is a bit more sticky.  I sometimes use them over my lipsticks - especially with the coloured Bite masks.  The Smashed colour leaves a great tint.

Re: Lip masks?

@KehDee Some of my favorites are

ROSEBUD PERFUME CO. - Rosebud Salve

Sara Happ the dream slip and

Lanolips lemonaid lip treatment

Re: Lip masks?

@faeriegirl how do you compare these to the laneige or bite ones? As always I don't need more but I'm always curious about comparisons. Thanks!
