Feathering

Just asking... for advice concerning Lipstick Feathering (crawling up - and disappearing into - my upper-lip wrinkles). I've just ordered several Natasha Denona products so I'm hopeful. I've had a tube of lipstick somewhere on my person for my entire life and now that I'm OLD-er, I'm contending with lip wrinkles and they're driving me crazy. I haven't smoked cigarettes since I was a teenager which means it's DNA... I've never worn a lot of makeup, am a natural blonde with blue eyes so am (very) fair-complected. I realize that the majority of Beauty Insider readers are much younger than I am however, somebody out there must have some experience with (or know something about) Lip Wrinkles/Feathering: solutions other than cake-like fillers or plastc surgery. Thanks.

Re: Feathering

Hi @AmeliaBedelia13 ! 50something year old lipstick addict here. To tame feathering/bleeding lipstick, I usually apply a perimeter barrier of invisible lip primer. My favorite for this is MAC Cosmetics Prep + Prime Lip Primer 0.05 oz/ 1.7 g  (not sold at Sephora USA but I’ll tag it anyway), but some folks have luck with other primers. Outline your lips with the primer just as you would a lip liner. This can help keep lipstick from creeping beyond your lips.

Some gel lip liners can also keep lipstick from feathering. My gold standard for this is PAT McGRATH LABS Permagel Ultra Lip Pencil. A less expensive option I like that also works (just not as well as Pat’s) is SEPHORA COLLECTION Retractable Rouge Gel Lip Liner.
