Expiration date: Lipstick

What is the expiration date on lipstick? 

I have a Besame Red Velvet 1946 lipstick I bought November 2015 

And do not know if I should still be using it!

If it smells ok and the consistency hasn't changed it should be fine. I only get rid of lip products if they smell or look bad since I am the only one using them.

You know I've read of people who buy vintage lipsticks so to me unless it's dried up it's good. But I've also read how if they dry out try brushing some petroleum jelly on. Never tried as I never seem to keep lipsticks long. Except Victoria's Secret lipstick in shy which was sadly discontinued so I still have a bit I use ever so sparingly.

If it smells the same and has the same consistency as when you first bought it it should be fine.  Trust that you'll just know when it goes off.  The flavour and scent will change and smell rancid or bitter in most cases.

2 years is the usual date. I'll be honest, if I'm in love with it I will push it longer if the formula is working the same and no change in taste. I try to keep my cosmetics clean and limit exposure to excessive heat.
