Dry Lips

I am starting tretinion and was told it could dry your lips out.... I have had the laneige lip mask, but sometimes it feels like the product just sits on my lips and I wake up to my lips feeling worse..... Any suggestions on a lippy for hydration that I don't need to constantly apply like a lip balm?!

Hi! You can try something (ingredient-wise) that has shea or castor oil, and a proper occlusive like beeswax.

@leahg2 Here sharing my opinion, the issue with most lip masks sitting on top without absorbing is that they're often built around occlusive ingredients like petrolatum or waxes which seal rather than hydrate, so what actually works better for tretinoin induced lip dryness is applying a thin layer of a humectant like glycerin or hyaluronic acid first on slightly damp lips and then sealing that in with your occlusive mask on top, because you're giving the occlusive something to actually trap rather than just coating already dry lips.

I'm also experiencing dry lips with Tretinoin use @leahg2 and it felt like none of the usual were working (Aquaphor, Lanolips, Lip Masks). Then I found a tube of EADEM Le Chouchou Exfoliating + Softening Peptide Lip Balm I forgot I had and applying it just morning and night turned things around in just over a day. I hope you find something that works for you and the Tret is going well 🙂

Thank you! I have tried this, just sometimes it feels like it sits on top of my lips and doesn't soak up... And then they feel worse in the morning. Maybe I am applying too much!

@leahg2 I've been in your shoes!  And while all the Sephora lip balms are fun, I was recommended to apply a moisturizer to my lips and then cover in Vaseline.  (TMI... but that Vaseline will also save you if your nose dries out like crazy as well).  It's a newer product here, but if I were to go back on Accutane I'd be looking to grab a very plain lip balm with no flavourants, the Dr. Idriss Lip Baste product, or a plain hydrating serum to use under Vaseline.

I was told Vaseline or Aquaphor as well (which i have) but wanted to spoil my lips a little bit, so I appreciate the suggestion 🙂
