I use a mugwort essence by I'm From.  It's 100% mugwort and is designed to sooth and calm skin.  Since I started using it a few months I've noticed that not only is my skin softer but it's less red.  It's also only $36 on amazon, which is a lot cheaper than all the others I was looking at.  Good luck!

I love love love the Blithe Lifting essence. I bought it at Sephora but they no longer carry it but I think Soko

glam does? Very well priced and you get a lot.

I, personally, like the Peach&Lily Wild Dew Treatment Essence (not sold at Sephora but Ulta) - it works well with my skin. But I guess looking at what you want in an essence & the key ingredients should help regardless. If you just want to try one to see how it fits in your skin care routine the Elf one isn't bad. It was the first one I tried too - mainly because it isn't expensive & I didn't know whether I would care for one in the long run so it wasn't a huge investment. I hope you find one you like...in case you are still looking. 😉

I discovered the  CAUDALIE - Vinoperfect Brightening Glycolic Essence totally by accident last year. I had a really great one-hour facial at the Caudalie Spa in Washington, D.C. last year and they gave me a couple of samples of their products to take home. One of them was the Essence and wondered how I could have gone so long without including it in my routine. I love the line, and I use the essence every other night along with the CAUDALIE - Vinoperfect Anti Dark Spot Serum.  These two products together have done wonders for my skin by addressing uneven skintone and texture issues. That means having to use less foundation.  I will never go without using this essence.

I love the  SK-II Aging Skin Facial Treatment Essence with Antioxidants 5.4 oz/ 160 mL .It leaves my skin so soft and bright. I have some redness on my cheeks and when I use this my skin is so even!

@snookamz7 I use an essence directly after washing my face, while the skin is still damp. This helps seal in moisture and layers very well with other moisturizers. My skin is sensitive, dry in winter and normal/combination in summer. My favorite essence by far is Koh Gen Do Oriental Plants Lotion II. It is unscented, feels like water, is soothing and quite moisturizing. The regular Oriental Plants lotion is the same, but lighter on the moisture, I use that one in summer.

SK-II Aging Skin Facial Treatment Essence with Antioxidants 5.4 oz/ 160 mL is quite similar to the Oriental Plants Lotion, it’s very nice. 

If you aren’t bothered by scents in skincare, AMOREPACIFIC - Moisture Bound Skin Energy Hydration Mist is really lovely. It’s quite moisturizing and in spray packaging which is so handy to use as skincare and as a refresher throughout the day. It smells nice, kind of unisex. I just prefer unscented personally.

Hi @snookamz7,

I use an essence as it helps the serums that I apply afterwards absorb better.

Right now, I'm really into using a hydrating essence which is why I really like the FRESH - Black Tea Kombucha Antioxidant Essence.

I also love the SK-II Aging Skin Facial Treatment Essence with Antioxidants 5.4 oz/ 160 mL .

@snookamz7 almost any essence is better than not using one, except... if your skin has an issue that causes you to be sensitive to (a) particular ingredient(s).

Personally, I've had better luck using the Hydrating Water Essence from e.l.f. than more expensive brands. The absolute worst one (that I've tried) for my skin was SK-II, but for other people that might be their holy grail. 

Pyungkang Yul make a nice toner essence, and Missha's Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence is also well regarded.
