Why is the Rewards Bazaar so high in points now versus when it first started in 2014?

In 2014 I was extremely fortunate to redeem 10,000 points and go on a trip to Sephora's headquarters in San Francisco.  Everything was paid for except some meals that we paid for ourselves.  I was even sent an expense check for my cost to travel from the hotel to the airport and vice versa.

It was a wonderful 2 day trip, with airline, hotel, gift baskets, gift cards, classes, all for 10,000 points which, at the time, was considered a lot of points.  Everybody was unbelievably nice and it was a great time.  I loved it.

In fact, some of you may remember that Sephora said at the time you could combine family and friends points with yours because thousands of points might be difficult for a lot of people to have all at once.

A all expense paid trip to Paris was 10,000 points.  5,000 points was a Marc Jacobs bag, which, I believe, had items inside it.

Now, flash forward to now and the same prizes are at least 30,000 points and, most likely 50,000 points.  Prizes that were 5,000 points in 2014 are now at least 15,000 points.  And they are gone instantly.  Even 50,000 rewards are gone- instantly.

I now have almost 17,000 points which have hardly any value, that 10,000 point trip I went on in 2014 is now worth at least 30,000 points.

Does anybody have insight into this?

High demand and low quantity = high cost.

High demand and low quantity = high cost.

I remember when 500 point perks had a total of five products and one of those products were always full sized. The other items were the same size as the 100 point deluxe sized perks.

I think the demand for those rewards is just too high, which unfortunately results in the costs (in points) increasing.

So jealous that you were able to go on a trip to Sephora HQ using your points!

Thank you, it was a really fun time.  A total of 10 people went, along with a guest of their choice.  10,000 points was such a big deal at the time, everybody was like, wow, 10,000 points?  I was very fortunate.
