Double cleanse

Hello,

Are you using a double cleanser even if you don't wear make up ?

Re: Double cleanse

Double cleansing for my skin when I don’t wear makeup makes it tight and dry. Only a heavy makeup days do I do the Glow Recipe Papaya Sorbet Smoothing Enzyme Cleansing Balm & Makeup Remover 3.4 oz/ 100 mL  and then an exfoliating cleanser after that maybe Tatcha Mini Deep Cleanse Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser 1.7 oz / 50 mL  with a baby towel.

Re: Double cleanse

@anddebs  I do. That way I make sure I get all the sunscreen off.

Re: Double cleanse

Mee too @faeriegirl I double cleanse for spf (sunscreen) and Make-up.

@anddebs I think it's soo important to protect our skin from the sun so I try to spf everyday ‌🌞‌

Re: Double cleanse

@anddebs Hello! I double cleanse regardless.

Re: Double cleanse

@anddebs I only double cleanse if I wear makeup.

Re: Double cleanse

I double cleanse even if I don't wear makeup. I do it as  I like the way my skin feels.

Re: Double cleanse

Hi @anddebs ! I double cleanse only after I've:

  1. Worn certain types of sunscreen. My usual PM cleanser (CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser Bar) removes non-zinc oxide ("chemical") sunscreens on its own but struggles with some zinc oxide ("mineral") sunscreens. So I use a cleansing balm to break up the sunscreen first: either Paula's Choice Omega + Complex Cleansing Balm 3.5 oz/ 104 mL or The Inkey List balm I'll tag further down this list.

  2. Worn more than brow pencil and lipstick. Those 2 things can be easily removed by my PM cleanser. For anything else—blush, redness correcting primer/color corrector, concealer, powder foundation, finishing powder, and/or any eye makeup—I start with a cleansing balm.

  3. Had an inflammation flare, bad reaction to something, damaged skin barrier—basically anytime my skin's very irritated. My PM cleanser's gentle, but rubbing my face at all still causes lots of burning and increased redness when my skin's very ticked off. In these cases, I always start with The INKEY List Oat Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm 5 oz/ 150 mL because it's very soothing (hooray for colloidal oatmeal): I put it on my face, leave it there for up to 10 minutes as a calming face mask, then very gently lather my PM cleanser right over it and rinse everything off. Without that specific cleansing balm, I'd never be able to wash my face during an inflammation tantrum.

Re: Double cleanse

Excellent information @WinglessOne , these are great points.

I never think to use my Inkey Oat Balm as a mask, I know it has all that oatey goodness, but I'm always rushing.  Thank you for the reminder 😄

Re: Double cleanse

@CynthieLu  That oat balm has been one of my skin's saviors for 2 years. I've used it as a soothing mask on other parts of my body before hopping in the shower. It's great for anyone whose skin irritation responds well to colloidal oats. You don't even have to leave it on for 10 minutes. I'm also impatient, so I apply it to my face (or wherever else I need it) and let it sit while I go do something else. Sometimes it's a very short activity, like the couple minutes it takes to brush my teeth. But masking is also a good time to load the washing machine, wash my French press if I haven't already (so I don't end up washing it in the morning and grumbling the whole time because I wanna make my coffee NOW dang it 😂), etc.

A friend once asked why I keep using this balm as a mask when I can just make my own oat face mask instead, using something like Aveeno Soothing Oatmeal Bath Treatment (which is very good, by the way, as both a bath soak and a DIY mask). But see, I have to mix the Aveeno oat powder with water to create a paste, which I've done before—when I'm patient enough. TIL's balm is ready to use, aside from having to shake the tube a few times in case the product separated. 👍

Re: Double cleanse

I am inpatient at times, or feel like I don't have time to patient 😅 @WinglessOne

It's true thou, doing other things at the same time makes it alot easier to use masks etc...I feel like I'm accomplishing more 😉

My skin likes the Oat Balm, I feel more motivated  to try out as a mask 😄

Ooh I haven't made my own mask in such a long time! It feels like forever ago I'd be making my own face or hair masks,  I almost forgot I ever did. Memories, I remember teenage me and friends wetting our faces and just putting straight oats on ourselves. That was a long lost memory 😂

Re: Double cleanse

@anddebs I generally only double cleanse if I'm wearing makeup - on no makeup days I just use a cleanser.
