Dior Backstage — Sponge Help

Hey there! I am a die-hard sponge user, brushes and I never have, nor will get along. Has anyone who uses the Dior Backstage foundation been able to get a full-coverage look using a sponge? It does soak up quite a bit of product, leaving some redness showing. I don’t normally use primer, but when I do it’s the MILK Hydro Grip. I never use concealer, and my setting powder is the Too Faced Peach Perfect (mattifying). I also have combo-oily skin with dry patches. Not sure if all that info was needed, but let me know your thoughts!

Re: Dior Backstage — Sponge Help

I love Dior Backstage! It's my go to for everyday, but it's not a full coverage foundation. It will cover my redness but I usually have to layer it a bit on my cheeks.

Re: Dior Backstage — Sponge Help

I agree with @keelybt and @darlyndar . I love this foundation because it's pretty skin-like, definitely not full coverage, I don't think even with a brush. You could try applying it with your fingers and use more pressing motions in the areas you want more coverage and then going over with a sponge to even it out. You could also try putting concealer in the areas you want more coverage, under your foundation.

Backstage is my Holy Grail foundation, @abbiedabbie13. This is because I can get the most perfect sheer coverage. One that simply evens out my tone. If you’re looking for full coverage and have oily skin, I suggest trying Fenty or Double Wear. You would go through a bottle of Backstage so quickly trying to get it to full coverage. I use an Artis Brush or my fingers to apply mine. I would try to just use your fingers as well. That way you’re wasting minimal product.

@darlyndar @keelybt  @makeitup305

I loved the sheer coverage and overall feel of this. It looked better than Armani luminous silk (when looked in magnifying mirror, Armani silk was sitting on top but this one had almost disappeared into skin and dis not cling to dry patches.

Do you have any idea about the difference in 3W/3WO or 4W. I tried 3W and 3W olive and both are looking bit grey-ish on me. They look ok in yellow light so in the night, I can pull those off but during the day light, my face and my neck looks totally different.

Do you mind sharing the shade you use.

No store in my state carries it. I had gotten samples of 3W & 3WO when I was traveling, based on SA recommendation but neither seem to be working for me.

Re: RE: Dior Backstage — Sponge Help

I use 4W and 4.5W, @naturalooks15. 4W is a perfect shade match. I add 4.5W depending on how tan I am.

I personally think staying in the warm category is the safest way to go, unless you are extremely fair. Seems like our skin tone is pretty similar. If you need to adjust the shade, you can go in with neutralizing pigments (LA Girl has green and blue).

Because its so sheer, it’s much more forgiving. I just picked up the primer as well. It’s such an amazing combo!

Thanks @darlyndar

Re: RE: Dior Backstage — Sponge Help

@naturalooks15 I use 2WO which is slightly too dark for me but 2W and 2N were too peachy/orange for me. For reference, probably my closest shade match is Mac NC25 (N2 in Face & Body). IMO Dior always leans slightly orange across all it's foundations so they can be hit or miss for me. What foundation do you usually use? If it's looking grey, odds are it's either too light or the wrong undertone (or both!).

Re: RE: Dior Backstage — Sponge Help

I don't have a foundation for a long time (couple of years 😛 ) I used to love Bobbi Brown longwear compact foundation in warm natural but the formula changed (name also changed slightly) and since then I did not find anything I liked.

I used to wear foundation only on special occasions so it's not a big deal. I just bought RMS Beauty un-coverup. With the same order I got Dior sample card. It has 4N and 3N. I will try those but those were too peach last time I tried. I think you are right, it's too light for me. next time I am in a city they carry this, I'll try 4WO.

I also liked Nars sheer glow in barcelona as well as YSL All hours BD 45 (atfer it oxidizes on me a little it looks best) when a MA used it in Sephora during my makeover. But I like the feeling of Dior backstage the best among everything that I have tried.

Re: RE: Dior Backstage — Sponge Help

@naturalooks15 I'll try to remember to swatch them for you next time I'm in the Sephora that carries them 🙂 I have one relatively near me that does.

Re: RE: Dior Backstage — Sponge Help

That would be super @makeitup305  ❤️❤️ Thanks so much.

RE: Dior Backstage — Sponge Help

It’s a very thin texture, easily absorbed by a sponge. Try a brush! In stippling motions, will give you better coverage, and as long as you stipple there will not be brush streaks. The foundation is meant to be more light-medium buildable, so even with a brush hoping for a full coverage without using a concealer might not be realistic. Hope that helps!
