There seems to be some confusion about the holiday promo bags that we get. I posted most of this as a sub-comment further down, but I'm gonna reiterate here where it's more visible. Also I know a lot of you know this already (esp. those of us who have been around in BT/BIC for a few years), but enough don't I think it's worth saying again.

For the past few years now, we have gotten 3 different sample bag promos for the holiday season. What order they bags have come in has changed a bit from year to year. So if you are searching back in threads, blogs, old emails, whatever, you have to keep that in mind.

• Mystery bag:  drawstring bag (only one design choice) with a mix of mostly foils and a few deluxe samples
• Pick 1 of 3 foils-only bag:  3 zipped makeup bag design options with 12 foils in them some years all 3 have the same foils, some years the foils differ from bag to bag
• Pick 1 of 3 deluxe samples bag:  often this bag itself has only one design choice and you are just choosing which set of samples you want, but sometimes there may be different bag designs too.

The buy-ins *are* going up every year, despite the number of samples and the bag quality staying the same. Designs have gotten progressively uglier (IMO) year after year too. I have skipped the foils-only promo almost every single year it has run b/c I need no more makeup bags and the samples were not special enough to warrant getting them, even back when the buy-in was only $25. YMMV, of course, but this has never been a great promo. However, it's not a sign that we're not getting a deluxe sample bag later in the season again. Skip this one, wait for that one. 😉

You're correct @dyslexia. Maybe this time releasing the foil-only one first was a slightly less than ideal move. Last year's theme was the jewels... and here's the mystery bag (cheap drawstring), the mini bag (zip on top), and the foil bag (zip on one of the side). I'm pretty sure I got all 3 promos last year; I definitely know I have two of the bags in my drawers that I use to store misc stuff.

They used to have the foils bag come out after the deluxe sample ones. I figured the reason to move it to an earlier date was that they were hoping that the foils bag would be more popular if released first and not being directly compared by most people to the deluxe samples. But with the insanely-high buy-in rate, I think that is backfiring on them. I'd be fine with them getting rid of this promotion all together and maybe replace it with something else.

Hey guys, if any is still on the fence about the BAGOFCHEER promo I thought I would take a snapshot of the contents of my bag should anyone want to examine it more closely - the Fenty Beauty foundation card came might quite a bit of foundation, the UD lip topper card came with 4 different lip topper samples and the Clinique card came with both the lip masque AND the lip balm which I had not realized.  The Stella vial is a nice 2ml.

Thank you @Marijay that's really nice : ) I can see why people are taking a pass I think it might be worth it if there's something over $45 you really wanted right away or if someone happened to be specifically interested in several of the products included as samples.  For myself I have a bunch of little bags so I'm not always super keen on getting another little makeup pouch but there were a couple products I was keen to try in this bag.  I'm really hoping that we will get another promo soon with 3-4 deluxe samples mixed in with a few foils or vials because I always find that's an exciting one : )  I think it normally happens between now and christmas but I guess we can't be totally sure if it's going to happen every year.  Still - my fingers are crossed! : )

Foil samples do not have that high of a value! They should be free, with purchase if appropriate. The bags Sephora gives out are most often very cheaply made and are not worth the hundredfold in buy-in to get them. Foil samples are distributed to help shoppers decide what to purchase... The end goal should be buying the full-size product as a result of liking the sample (or conversely not picking up the item), not acquiring samples as if they had tremendous value.

On the other hand these sample bags might be good for people who are not able to easily access physical store locations. I will likely never sample testers on my face that don't come in tubes or pumps, so foils are a more sanitary alternative. The selection is slightly better than what we usually get in the 3 free samples and I like that it is themed.

The bags in my personal opinion are fuuugly and as a result of buying into past promos I already own a ton of better looking and more unique bags. So I shouldn't get this promo.

The samples don't interest me personally. The bag is not my favorite. I've made it a personal goal to stop buying at Sephora just for their promos especially now that i know what i like in terms of makeup, and I'm on a low buy (also no buy until the sale). I'm going to vote with my money and not buy into this promo (or any dumb cash grab). 

On the other hand it's a decent promo for those participating in the F&F sale.

I completely agree.  I actually cannot get over how ugly these bags its not what I would expect from Sephora.  Why not make the holiday bags reminiscent of their holiday collection with the cute foxes, or at least stick with the beautiful pastel colour theme.  Regardless of that I would not buy for a bag, these foil samples are ridiculous there is no way that is getting me to buy, especially before Colourpop drops and the November sale.

I agree 100%, I saw the bags for this year and I couldn't help but think they looked really tacky. Seriously Sephora, where's that creative marketing team of yours?

I actually opted for another promo than the holiday bags on my last order because I don't see the benefit in the foil samples...especially for a $45 buy in.

I don't disagree with that! @Marijay Last year I got the foil promo bag only because I was placing an order anyway and it was the "best" promo at the time.

good times. Sephora is going downhill with every promo. It's unfortunate. I'm starting to shop in a different store with way better perks. New stores/chains are popping up and existing beauty stores are expanding their reward policy - Sephora is not matching the perks.

With this community revamp so many posts go up about how unsatisfied we are (especially Rouge), I just hope Sephora is actually analyzing this data. But sometimes I feel like we are screaming into the void 😄

I'm totally going to complain about this. That is an AWFUL gwp with WAY TOO HIGH a buy-in for what it is. I mean COME ON. Sephora has lost the plot in their own story. It's official. I'm offended, Sephora. You managed to offend a Canadian. And I'm not even sorry about it. Sacrilege.

These were just 2 of the bags available around the same time of the year in 2015.  AND you only needed to spend $25 to recieve one.  I don't like to complain about Sephora perks and rewards but this year's bag is a joke.

This is an incorrect analogy though. Each year for the past few years, we get three holiday bags -- not always in the same order:

- One drawstring bag with a mix of foils and a couple deluxe

- A choice of 1 of 3 bags with foils (in 2015, the year referenced above, it was MIXITUP and it landed on Nov 20th - that is the one that is similar to the promo currently running)

- A choice of 2-3 bags with deluxe samples.

Above you are linking to the deluxe sample bag from 2015, but it's not analogous to the current promo, it's analogous to the one we're til due to get a little later on in the year.  Last year they flipped the order of the sample bags around, so you can't just look at what dates they landed in past years, you have to look for all 3 promos to draw the right connection.

Now, that said, MIXITUP back in 2015 had 3 bag options, 12 foils and the buy-in was $25. Number of bag design choices and number of samples is the same, **but** the buy-in has gone way too far up & the bags have gotten uglier (though about the same quality, design aside). So it is a step down in that regard, but we gotta stop comparing the deluxe bags with the foil bags, guys.

YES! This was such a good bag.  This was one of the first times I got into buying when there were good promos.  I loved a lot of these products and still have the lip oil which I love.  I also bought full sizes after actually getting to try these products more than one time
