@ChristalM @veronika23 I just tried it at a Neimans counter yesterday

I wasn’t expecting I would love it but I was surprised by how much I didn’t like it.

it kinda hits you in the face with an artificial cherry scent, like cough syrup or halls lozenges and that is it’s dominant, overpowering note.

It was very long wearing and towards the end a little vanilla comes through but this one was definitely not for me.

@veronika23 Thanks! Sadly my Nordstrom acts like you are trying to steak something when I try to sample a fragrance so we shall see. Hoping to at least be able to spray..

@ChristalM I’m not sure why but all the counters I asked about Lost Cherry in Toronto (Holts, Nords, Saks) told me they weren’t allowed to sample it either via vial or spritz, which seems absurd for a fragrance that is higher priced than the regular private range. I haven’t seen it in stores at Sephora either, so I don’t know how people are supposed to know if they like it. I recall there were similar tactics used with FF last year.

that said, the Neimans I was at only offered to let me sample it after the lipstick I’d actually come in for was unavailable in store.

@Mochapj Wow crazy. Yeah that was my experience as well. For Vanille Fatale, my Nordstrom actually said sampling was for paying customers only?! Ok....

So apparently you have to shell out 300-400 for a fragrance because it is TF only. Nope not me.

Wow, @ChristalM! That's really disappointing. I haven't run into that at Nordstrom before (the SAs I've shopped with before have actually sent samples both when I requested and sometimes just as a little surprise to try a new scent).

Sadly, I'm not surprised that some people take that approach with samples. But it realy is helpful to be able to try something. There are quite a few products I never would have considered purchasing (given the price), but ended up loving after testing a sample.

I was also considering Lost Cherry, but after reading the reviews on Fragrantica, I knew this couldn't be a blind buy for me. The reviews there sounded fairly similar to Mocha's thoughts.

@lachaton it is! Especially since everyone knows me and knows that I am a regular customer and not just hanging around for "free" samples.

Yeah the reviews seem mixed at best from what I have read. While I love Cherry, I am hoping for more of the warm dry down that some people seem to be experiencing. I will try this weekend and report back 🙂

Since you mentioned you like cherry, have you tried much from Guerlain's LPRN line? I'm specifically thinking of the Black Perfecto version, or even the Couture.

My Lost Cherry thoughts:

So I went to Nordstrom in search of the tester. And as per usual they were hiding it so you know the poor regular masses couldn't get their hands on it. So I wasn't actually allowed to touch it when it the tester was found by a lady from the Joe Malone counter. She sprayed it on card for me and that is when the TF counter guy came running and screaming. Apparently you are absolutely not supposed to spray it on a card and that the already sprayed cermanic tile was was they were letting people sniff to replicate the fragrance on skin.

At this point I don't smell anything and that is when he argued with me that I was wrong and finally let me try on skin. WOw just wow....and I know this guy and have shopped with him regularly for years! Anyhoo. I love the first cherry blast and I do also love the dry down that is much warmer skin scent of sweet but I think it is way too subtle for the price tag. 200 I would have purchased but nearly 400 CDN and then tax. No go for me.

@lachaton It is disappointing. It seems like this TF elitist persona is getting worse. I have bought my fair share of his products over the years and my SO is a fan of his men accessories but this is getting a bit much for me. The attitudes is very off putting.

@lachaton I have sampled black perfecto and it was not FBW for me personally. It was rather "sharp" to my nose and lacking the warmth I desired. I am sorry I am not a sophisticated fragrance reviewer and can't really detail it more than that but it was not to my liking.

Fair enough! It does have the licorice and leather so I can see why it doesn't have universal appeal. Cherry scents are tricky to find nice ones.

@lachaton Indeed. I have learned that anything with a leather note tends to go really badly on me. I love the idea but the reality does not play out well for me 🙂
