Growing Up

My first perfume at 13 was Davidoff cool water and the light blue bottle of RALPH. In high school I went through a sweet scent phase, I believe it was pink sugar. Now most of my fragrances have notes of bergamot, rose, vetiver, sambac and surprisingly OUD!!!!!!! OUD reminds me of a geriatric lady from church that carried mints and chocolate in her purse, that always had a bread crumb on her lip. Oops I just described my grandma! Now I like only a small note of it in my fragrance. OMG am I geriatric now? How have your fragrances matured over time? Do you remember your first scent?

RE: Growing Up

My mother always got me a new ed hardy perfume every Christmas when I was in middle school. I can’t remember the names but the one was from the love and luck line and I remember one of the main ingredients was vodka and for some reason that always made me gag a little lol! It smelt amazing I know they still sell the scent but no longer in Canada.

Ed hardy. Wow I haven't heard that brand in a long time!...

As a teen, I always wore Happy by Clinique and feel that citrus scent really suited my personality. In my twenties, I found a limited edition perfume by Givenchy, Cedre d'hiver, and that started me on more interesting and Woody scents. I love cedar and sandalwood. Now some faves are Penhaligan's Opus, Diptyque's Tam Dao, and, surprisingly, Jo Malone's Dark Amber and Ginger Lily.

Sandalwood is another fave note of mine. My sephora doesn't carry the Jo Malone brand in store. Only high end department stores which are far distance wise for me. I wish 100 or 250 perk points offered samples of brand. I have been wanting to indulge in the fragrances offered by this brand.

@GingerMelody

I remember Happy 🙂 I also love cedar, even just on its own!

Re: Growing Up

My first scents were Exclamation and M by Mariah. I'm not sure my scents have changed much over time, I like to try almost anything and everything. I guess instead of sweet I prefer spicy scents.

Agreed. I find that sweet scents give me a headache or make me feel lightheaded.

Re: Growing Up

Great question!!! My first scent was Lancome's Miracle which, at the time, smelled ultra-femme to me. It was sweet, light and inoffensive - and now, instead of femme, it smells very girlish to me. I could never wear this today!

The other fragrance I liked was Gwen Stefani's/LAMB's L which is now discontinued. It was in your face, unapologetically gaudy and very synthetic smelling. Thinking back, it was a pretty good one for a teenager to wear LOL. Remembering it is kind of like looking at old photos of the crazy makeup/hair/fashion looks you did when you were young and smiling/cringing at yourself 😛

Today I love really challenging or strange fragrances or anything that hearkens back to vintage times. I'll try any chypre. Anything that reminds me of a great cocktail. Super smoky, spicy, metallic or animalistic fragrances - scents that would have made me recoil in disgust as a teen. Definitely enjoy some ouds, one of my favourites being the ultra-pungent Pearl Oud by Kilian.
