Extra Scentsy

I believe that I have an overactive olfactory system... a.k.a I've been considered a "super-smeller" by friends because I tend to notice certain scents that others do not.  Because of this, I have a very difficult time finding fragrances that work for me.  Most notably, there is a top note in a large percentage of commercial fragrances (regardless of quality or price) that I can only personally attribute to something smelling like several day-old unwashed hair sprayed with fragrance or wearing clothing more than once after spraying it with fragrance, even though it's freshly applied to clean body/laundered clothes.  It's difficult to explain.

Regardless, it's very rare for me to find a scent that doesn't have this quality or top note.

I fell absolutely in love with Commodity's "Paper" as it was unique, comprehensive and clean, without having a specifically marketed masculinity or femininity which is important to me.  They discontinued it and I'm almost out - does anyone have any recommendations?

Re: Extra Scentsy

@lvrana13It's tough to tell what the problem chemical or chemicals are when houses don't have to list all ingredients. Maybe try perfume oils and see if you have the same issue? My only other suggestion is to try natural houses like Phlur because they can list all ingredients and this way you can try to narrow down what's not working for you. Good luck!

Re: Extra Scentsy

@lvrana13 Generally fragrances these days contain bergamot in the top notes, which gives the fragrance a citrusy, bitter and tart top. I am not sure if this is what puts you off to most fragrances?

Paper for women (white bottle) has a top note of Iso-E-Super. This is a synthetic molecule that produces a light woody note. Many fragrance houses use it; Hermes for instance. The interesting thing about Iso-E-Super is that if I were to spray myself 30 times, it would still come across a nice, light and woody scent.

For you, I highly recommend Molecule 01 by Escentric Molecules. You can purchase a 1.5 ml sample from Luckyscent for US $6, and a 100 ml bottle for US $135.
