I was one of the lucky BIC members to be given a chance to attend the SuperGoop pop-up event in NYC and I am here to share my experience. I learned a lot at the event and had so much fun with fellow BIC community members @MlleCC and @michelleshops ❤️
This was Supergoop’s first standalone pop-up event and it focused on SPF education (as you can see by the pictures we literally went back to school!), skin cancer awareness and mythbusting.
We were told to arrive early and we met Alexis, she works for Supergoop and warmly welcomed us into the space. She knew all about BIC and seemed very excited to have us there. We talked about our personal SPF preferences, Supergoop products and their new Shimmershade eyeshadows. These were super creamy and buildable. My favorite was the rose gold one, but the brown shade could easily be blended to leave a beautiful and soft smoky look. 5-10% of skin cancers are found around the eye area and this eyeshadow formula contains SPF 30.
Shimmershades!
Sunset(brown), Daydream(rose gold), First light (light gold)
Golden Hour (gold)
Holly Thaggard, the brand founder herself, came to meet us and walked us through the pop up, explaining her vision for the event. Prior to founding Supergoop! she was a teacher and the pop-up was a marriage between two of her passions: education and SPF. She talked about how the brand came about, the variety of products the brand offers and their focus on innovation. We had a really nice chat and she was genuinely nice and down to earth.
At 11:00 other guests started to arrive and sit down for the panel. They saved us seats in the from row - I felt very VIP lol !
Panel: SUN 101 & Mythbusting Class
I am no stranger to SPF and take it very seriously. My mother had skin cancer when I was 8 years old (I’m 32 now) and I recall her having surgery to remove the lesion and part of the bone and having a metal plate placed on her nose. Since then, she had 2 other lesions removed, one of them being on her scalp (Supergoop has a powder product called Poof Part that protects the scalp and doubles as a dry shampoo that I really want to try!).
Given my personal experience with skin cancer, I have to say I was surprised at how much I learned from this panel. I will summarize in bullet points my main takes from it and some other things that I find important to share:
At the end of the event we received a Supergoop! re-usable tote that included a “Wear Sunscreen” t-shirt (available for sale on their website) and 2 of their best selling products - Unseen and Glow stick !
Thank you so much Sephora and Supergoop for offering this opportunity for us community members - I am very grateful for this wonderful experience with the brand. ❤️
(I went to high school in Brazil and never had a locker. I saw plenty of these in every american HS teenage movie, so I could not resist and strike a (few) pose(s).
So glad you could join us @Cyncynn, you were a ray of sunshine! Thank you for sharing all your Sun101 learnings with the rest of the community. You know where to find us if you ever need anything 💛
@Anonymous Thank you for having me and being so welcoming and generous.
I am going on vacation tomorrow and will proudly wear my "Wear Sunscreen" tee ❤️
@Cyncynn , this is such a neat event! I'm glad you had fun!
@curlychiquita Thank you so much ❤️
@Cyncynn , it was so great to see you again! Love the photos of you with the lockers -- you would've been the coolest girl at any American high school! 😄
Honestly, this is SO SO cool!!!! I saw the new Supergoop SPF eyeshadows on my trip to the states last month, but didn’t purchase bc I thought they were too gimmicky. Very interesting to learn that there is a percentage of skin cancers that are actually found near the eye area. I’ll definitely find time to read up on that! Thanks for bringing us along on your pop-up experience!! I can see myself referring back to this thread with all the insights you’ve brought us @Cyncynn 😄
@Guessgal Thank you so much - I am so glad you enjoyed reading !!! Holly also mentioned that skin cancer in the eye area are harder to treat since it's such a delicate area.
I've been making sure to take my SPF all over the eye area since learning that!
@Cyncynn Congrats!!! Way to make SPF fun!
@Cyncynn Thanks for the great post! I'm amazed that 90% of aging is caused by the sun, that's insane. That's why I've been wearing sunscreen since I was a teenager. I love the SUPERGOOP! - Invincible Setting Powder SPF 45.
<333
I haven't tried the powder yet, but I want to. Does it add any color?
I was happy to hear you can buy a refill instead of buying the brush component again and again.
@Cyncynn I use the translucent shade as a setting powder and as an on the go sunscreen after my workouts because I can easily put it in my purse. They do tinted ones that add a bit of color on the skin. <333
@Cyncynn I LOVE IT! Thank you so much for sharing with us and teaching us a few of your learnings, I truly enjoyed reading your post. And by the way you look adorable by those lockers:)
@Cyncynn What a fun experience. You look like you had a blast. Thank you for sharing with us.
Just in time for the warmer months. Looks like you had fun 🙂 thank you for sharing your experience and SPF knowledge @Cyncynn ! Love their products
@RNGesusPls I am somewhat new to the brand, but I am really enjoying the products I've received samples of! Unseen worked great as a primer too!
