Rough, Dry Hands

Hello, all! Although I live in a climate where the humidity is usually perfect for my skin (using a skincare regime, of course - I'm not a barbarian! LOL). However, because I wash my hands after visiting the Ladies at work, the backs of my hands get dry and rough. Sephora no longer carries the Lano line, and their rose hand cream was PERFECT for me, even during the pandemic when I kept using sanitizer on my poor sore hands (in fact, it was what saved my hands, which were starting to blister and crack). Luckily I'm not abusing them like that these days, but they still get dry and rough due to using commercial hand soap during the work day.

So my questions are,

1. What, if anything, do you use to get rid of the dry rough skin before moisturizing? and

2. What moisturizer do you find is best? I HATE having my palms and fingertips be greasy and slippery, which is why I loved the Lano cream, but I can stretch a point and just use a moisturizer on the back of my hands if need be. That said...bonus points for non-greasiness.

All suggestions welcomed and appreciated!

Re: Rough, Dry Hands

@Westcoasty For emergencies when my hands get very dry with Eczema, I use pure raw coconut oil. Rub it on your hands, leave it for a couple seconds and then wipe it off. It's very hydrating.

I really love the Elf Holy Hydration! Remedy Hand Cream as it absorbs quicky into your skin without any greasy feeling, but it's $7 Canadian for a small 75ml tube, so I use it sparingly.

Re: Rough, Dry Hands

@raphaela12I actually have coconut oil in my pantry, so that's definitely an easy one to try! And no need to purchase a product I may not like, which is a bonus. 😁

I think London Drugs sells Elf products - I'll take a look next time I'm there. Thanks for the dual recommendation!

Re: Rough, Dry Hands

@Westcoasty Yep! I have a small tube of it where I store my skincare stuff just in case I do need it for my hands.

If you're in Canada, Walmart and Shoppers Drug Mart also sells ELF.

Re: Rough, Dry Hands

Yes, I'm in Canada, in BC. Thank you again. 😊

Re: Rough, Dry Hands

You really should try out the hand cream from fenty skin, it’s the best thing for dry and crunchy hands I ever used

Re: Rough, Dry Hands

@WendyWang23333Interesting - I keep looking at Fenty Skin products, but haven't tried any of them yet. I'll add that to the list. Thanks so much for the recommendation!

Re: Rough, Dry Hands

Honestly the only thing that works for my dry cracked hands (even through Canadian winters) is the o'keefe hand cream. It is super cheap and you can get it at the drugstore or Walmart. Tip is to only apply a tiny bit so your hands don't get greasy

Re: Rough, Dry Hands

@sosopenguinoI think I know the product you mean, but I've never tried it before. I'll pick some up next time I'm at the drugstore. Thanks for the tip!

Re: Rough, Dry Hands

Hi @Westcoasty! Another vote for Skinfix Hand Repair Cream 3 oz/ 89 mL. I use the other version meant for people with eczema and it’s been great so far. The other one I enjoy is Moroccanoil Hand Cream Fragrance Originale. Not greasy feeling and pleasantly scented. I usually shy away from fragrance in my products since my skin is sensitive, but this hasn’t been an issue.

Re: Rough, Dry Hands

@JoSometimes  Thank you for also recommending the Skinfix Hand Repair Cream! I'll have to get that.

I'm a little doubtful about the Moroccanoil product, though I'll sample it next time I'm in store. I tried a sample cream of theirs once and loved the scent, but then I tried their hair mask and the scent was so strong that it made me feel ill and I couldn't use it again.

But Skinfix apparently is a solid solution if it gets two votes! Thanks so much.

Re: Rough, Dry Hands

@Westcoasty  To exfoliate I just use a little bit of the same product I use on my face, either Youth To The People Yerba Mate Resurfacing + Exfoliating Energy Facial with Enzymes + Niacinamide 2.0 oz/ 59 mL or Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta® Extra Strength Daily Peel Pads . For hand cream I really like Skinfix Hand Repair Cream 3 oz/ 89 mL . If my hands are extra dry I like using Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Mini Hydra'Reset Intensive Recovery Glycerin Hand Mask 1 oz / 30 mL . It does feel greasy at first but once it sinks in it really helps.

Re: Rough, Dry Hands

I honestly like the fresh milk hand cream it works well since I have really dry hands too hopefully it helps girlie.

Re: Rough, Dry Hands

@dryfacealwaysFor some reason I didn't get a notification about your post! Sorry for the delayed reply. Anyhow, I like Fresh products, so I'll give the milk hand cream a try! Thanks for the recommendation.

Re: Rough, Dry Hands

@faeriegirlDear me, I really am old school - I was thinking of a scrub, like Crabtree & Evelyn (RIP) used to sell for hand care. But if we can use chemical exfoliants on our faces, why not our hands? Thank you for pointing that out! LOL

Thanks as well for the product recommendations. I know Skinfix saved my face when I visited my sister in a drier climate, taking along trial sizes of skincare I hadn't tried before, so I definitely want to give that a go! I'll look at the others as well, but overall I really appreciate your reminder that facial skincare can work on my hands as well. Thank you so much. 😀
