Extreme dry skin

I have very flaky skin right in the crease of my nose and sometimes on top of my nose. The other parts of my face are ok. I have tried everything just about everything! I can’t get rid of it. I am looking to seek any help that I can get to get rid of it. I have been having it for years. Advice on exfoliates, moisturizers, serums, face washes or would you even recommend some kind of treatment with an esthetician? I was trying to do treatments before an esthetician but I may end up needing to go. I know too much exfoliating can cause this so I don’t do it that much. Praying someone can help. Many thanks!

Re: Extreme dry skin

@MCL6810 have you tried Aquaphor?

Re: Extreme dry skin

I have tried that. No help. 😞

Re: Extreme dry skin

@MCL6810  Definitely stop exfoliating that skin for now, so you don’t worsen the damage. Once your skin’s in better shape, you can start exfoliating again—and keep exfoliation to just 1-3 times a week.

Instead of an esthetician, try seeing a board certified dermatologist or primary care doctor if you can. An esthetician can’t diagnose your skin (not in the US, anyway), but a derm or other medical doctor can. You might have a skin condition that needs specialized treatment.

Some people get yeast overactivity/infection around the nose. We all have a type of yeast that lives on our skin surface. Sometimes that yeast invades pores and causes irritation; dry flaky skin is one of the symptoms. Note that I’m not a medical doctor and I’m not saying you have this skin condition. Dry flaky skin is symptomatic of other conditions, too. You really need a doctor to tell you which one you might have. But if you want to see if it’s yeast partying too hard, you can use an anti-dandruff shampoo to wash just that skin on and around your nose a few times a week. You’ll want a shampoo that contains anti-fungal ingredients: either pyrithione zinc (Vanicream Dandruff Shampoo, for instance), ketoconazole (Nizoral Shampoo), or selenium sulfide (Selsun Blue; if you try this, go for the “Moisturizing” version). That’s a fairly inexpensive and easy way to see if yeast is your skin’s issue.

Re: Extreme dry skin

That’s a good point. I have never heard of this before but I definitely think this makes perfect sense. I will

most certainly try a shampoo for sometime but will also see a derm. I really appreciate your feedback and very good advice. 🙂
