Dry skin powder?

Are there any face powders that aren’t horrible on dry skin? Or should they all be avoided? I just love how they bring the look together!

Re: Dry skin powder?

@aschoon, I agree with @WinglessOne that going light with the powder and making sure your skin is properly hydrated before applying makeup is necessary when you have dry skin. I also use a dewy setting spray right after powdering.

I have been using Josie Maron Skin Dope. I love it. I also love Drunk Elephant Marula Oil and Herbivore has some amazing oils as well. I reccomened getting some samples of oils you are interested in and try them out first.

Re: Dry skin powder?

I second the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush powder. I’ll also recommend making sure your skin is well hydrated and very moisturized. Some dry skin makeup issues really begin with skincare, not makeup products.

I have dry skin. The less hydrated and moisturized my skin is, the worse powdered products look on me. (ALL powdered products: setting powder, blush, highlighter, bronzer, finishing powder, etc.) For me, this is especially true under my eyes, where my skin is driest. I apply an eye serum and usually at least 2 layers of eye cream to plump up and moisturize that skin. If I don’t, both my concealer and my setting powder will just emphasize my dry patches.

For my under-eyes, I often use a setting powder Sephora unfortunately doesn’t sell: By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder. As its name implies, it contains Hyaluronic Acid to help keep my skin moisturized. I only need the teeniest tiniest amount of that powder to lock my concealer in place. That’s another thing I’ll recommend: use the smallest amount of powder necessary. If you apply finishing powders all over your face (something like the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders), apply them in light layers. But always make sure you’re applying them to very moisturized skin.
