makeup over scabs / skin picking, please help <3

Hi lovely people who know how to use makeup,

I have skin picking disorder (aka excoriation), which is basically where I pick at my face / acne / any blemishes or spots until they get scabby and yucky. It's a lot better than it used to be, but I still have some problem spots. I generally have one or two that are about a centimeter in diameter, and then a whole bunch of little ones like popped pimples. I am trying to let them heal, and also don't want to look super bad in public.

What makeup / skincare regimen should I use to cover these up or help them heal? In particular, I'm looking for a new foundation and concealer (previously used Sephora brand and it was ok), and am wondering if I should go in-store for one of the consultation things. I am quite a newbie and any help is appreciated. (please let me know if I did something wrong with this conversation / post / etc.)

Other potentially useful information:

  • I am a teenager, so price is a bit of a factor and I'm fine with buying drugstore things if they work.
  • I am very very pale
  • I think I have normal skin (for a teenager) but I'm not really sure

Again, thanks so much, any help is appreciated!

Moisturizing those spots is key for me! I still deal with acne at 28 and have a hard time resisting picking my face. Whenever I do pick, I try to moisturize those spots as much as I can because the healing process is always flaky and never allows make up sit nicely on the skin.

When you're somewhere private, try CosRx's blemish patches (the originals, not the thins). They will absorb everything inside the blemish and help your skin heal, plus create a barrier so you cannot pick at them 🙂

I would not recommend using foundation or concealer over any open wounds. If a scab has formed, you could try covering up with a mineral foundation which hopefully should not irritate your skin too much while providing coverage. If you feel you must use primer to smooth out the area first, try to choose one that is not silicone based as that may cause further breakouts.
